They dragged me kicking and screaming. Kicking and screaming, I say! Well, they did.
Lots of convoluted chaos, death, and coincidence happened. I was in my second year of college, and on a giant campus somehow the few people I knew managed to also know everyone else, which was rather amusing when we sat down to lunch for the first time and everyone already knew every. It turned out they were all, except for me, into anime.
They used to drag me off to the library basement to a rented video room to watch Ranma, which was somewhat amusing but didn't really draw me in. Then one of them decided it was necessary to show me the great glory of anime, known as Akira. It did not go well. It took two sittings and he had to guard the door because I wanted to escape. It's still the measure I use to define what truly awful anime is.
I refused to have anything to do with their little anime habit after that, but one of my friends was very cunning and she got me to come to her party, because she's my friend and I wasn't going to say, "No," to her birthday party, and they had anime on. Of course. Fushigi Yuugi. She coaxed me into watching it, and low and behold. Hooked! It was most excellent. ¬_¬ That was some years ago, and now we know I'm an old fart. *grin*
I've been fond of anime, well.. certain animes, ever since. It's a fascinating art and storytelling form. And I'll admit it. I like the bishounen.

I also found Akira to be highly over-rated, but it was an essential film to animé's popularity in North America, so I respect it.
I have not seen Fushigi Yuugi, but I can recommend this excellent AMV made by Kusoyaro. I think you'll enjoy it.
I'm a new member myself so I don't know if I have the "authority" to say this, but welcome to forum

I haven't seen the anime 'Holmes', but as a Sherlock Holmes fangirl, thank you for the welcome. A welcome from 'Holmes' is very exciting! I'll have to check out your MV recommendation. *curses her painful dialup internet connection*Holmes wrote:I also found Akira to be highly over-rated, but it was an essential film to animé's popularity in North America, so I respect it.

And also, encourage you to see Fushigi Yuugi. It's an excellent storyline. The opening music, in part, is what hooked me as well and did a great deal to heal the Akira damage to my psyche. *laugh* Nice minor key. Being my first anime series addiction, it will always hold a special place with me.

actually....my anime addiction kinda came in two waves. i got really hooked on (wait for it) pokemon back when it first started to hit big, i thouched a little on DBZ, but not so much. And for a long time that was it......but then *music cue* my friend mentioned these things called "AMVs" so i thought id check them out. the first one i saw was euphoria (way to kick it off eh?), and after a long night of constant downloads....my obsession was reborn. the first anime i actually bought was cowboy bebop, mostly because id heard such good things about it, and needless to say it merely fueled the fire.
