I have recently watched Akira the Movie and I was just wondering if anyone else here has seen the movie or read the manga. If so, tell me if you liked it and why or why not.

I also want to suggest the movie to those of you who haven't seen it yet, but I warn you... Those with weak stomachs to blood and gore are strongly cautioned. And for those who happen to like blood and gore, (such as myself) I think you will really like this movie.

I think almost anyone who is part of this forum has seen the movie, its a classic and one that will never get stale (imho), the manga is interesting it (as all mangas do) continues with the store and adds so much more detail.

It was the first anime I saw, i think anyway, I was in Jr high and I didn't understand it at all. it just seemed like some biker anime, but four years later when I was in 12 grade I got into anime and decided to watch it again. Now having fully understood it, I think it is truly the best anime movie I have ever seen. In second there is Vampire Hunter D blood lust, but Akira was just stunning, and it got better each time I watched it. Truly a great classic that will never die out!

I haven't seen it and don't intend to. Not a big fan of gore and motorcycles.

The plot of the Akira anime is crap. The detail, though, is sweet.

It is a top Anime.

I've heared that there is an Akira 2 in the making.
I have no clue when it is ment to be done but it might be on the way.

If you are going to make huge claims, like another Akira movie, show us some proof. Give us a link or something.

Without proof, it is a rumor. And rumors start a lot of commotion and arguments.

I for one love Akira. And I don't think they will ever, and I sure hope they don't ever, make another.

What do you mean the plot is crap? Are you crazy? You should probably watch the movie again. I agree, it is a little confusing at first but you should definately watch it again. Try it, but pay really close attention, you'll get it eventually.

Oh I forgot:
As for me, Akira was a great anime. There were a few turn-offs though.
First, I hated the english voice for Tetsuo. It's just that ever since I used to like Digimon (don't anymore. I was like 9) I always hated whoever's voice that was for Ty. I can't even watch Wolf's Rain without getting ticked off because of Hige's voice and he is one of my favorite characters but I just want to strangle the person who started that voice actors career.
Second, No offense to Johnny Yong Bosch, but he just wasn't good for the voice of Kaneda. It's not his fault, It's whoever picked him.
And lastly, the dubbing was pretty horrid in a lot of parts. But hey, it's an old anime and I can understand why.
Despite all the turn-offs of this movie, it still left me in complete awe and I absolutely loved it. And that's saying a lot considering all of the bad things in this movie and me, being a very serious Anime critic.
