Orguss is good, but I haven't seen it all, and don't really have any chance to. Great series, but near impossible to find.

not much of a mecha fan but here are some recommendable ones:

-Evangelion (obvious...)
-MKR (yea i like the fantasy side of the story more than the mech but yea nice mixed between the two :) )
-Gundam G (the only gundam i like in all the gundamn gundam series  )
-Neo Ranga (again nice blend of fantasy...err...mystic? mech story)
-RahXephon (heh...again obvious)
-Gasaraki (not really into this one but the story is interesting)
-Escaflowne (story's nice and all i just personally dont like the main heroine of the story)
-Sakura Wars (modern, traditional (in a way), and futuristic blend :P )
later...

Gundam Wing and Ra Xephon are the best.
Full Metal Panic is good to though.
Gasaraki is good for techno babble or a cure for insomnia.

3. Gundam SEED
2. Robotech: The Macross Saga
1. (Even though it may not count) Evangelion!

My favorites are Transformers and most Gundam series. I especially like Gundam Seed Destiny and Beast Wars (though still not sure if it's anime).

Another that hasn't been mentioned, VanDred. This is a mecha story with a romantic comedy theme. Men and women are mortal enemies, three men get stranded on a ship full of women when their ships collide and combine. Romantic hillarity ensues, quite a laugh when Hiro's Van-mecha collides with Dita's Dred-fighter and the two combine. She ends up sitting on his lap in the cockpit { no pun intended }, to his growing discomfort. Interesting story line, good animation and some nice mecha battles. This is worth seeing.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?
