dodgy anime reviews

Post by bum » Sat May 07, 2005 8:07 pm

Ok originaly I posted this thread as a reply in this thread because I'm starting to wonder what exactly I smoked in me freinds garage two midnights ago. I also made varios dodgy pgp tag errors. anyway..................

Ever read a review of an anime where the reviewer sounded like they've totoaly missed the point of the damn thing and feel like they need a good dose of hard blunt things to the head? Oh and, I know this thread could go angsty and violent with clashing opinions but it could also bring up some good conversation.

Maybe gothic shows are just not for me, but how else would you describe inconsistent character designs? At certain angles, she is tolerable, but most of the time, she is plain scary.
I havent seen this anime but complaining that such a dark anime has "ugly" characters is something I'd expect from someone who's seen little besides pokemon. Imagine how stupid the atmosphere would feel if the characters well all cute and pretty.
themanime.org - Le portrait de Petit Cossette wrote:The crazed artist must be suffering (other than insanity) from a Lolita complex. I mean, Cossette is barely twelve years old from the looks of it, and they are in love?! Give me a break. Folks, I apologize, but I do NOT like characters that go after minors, for whatever reason. It's just plain wrong.
I agree with the point in question, but judging an anime for having theme's related to lolita's is unfair. Its the same as judging a war movie for having grotesq violence. If it showed real life young characters in real situations ok that may be a reason for concern. But as an insignificant theme, it shouldnt serve as a basis to judge the show.

Bah, it looks as though it was reviewed by one of those otakus that think that just because they've seen a bit of Anime, they know everything about it and are able to have opinions of it.

Firstly, if it's going to be a review, it should be fair at least. Give the good and the bad of the Anime, nyar! And complaining about character designs is retarded. I mean, you can complain if the artwork isn't consistent and makes it seem that one character looks like something else ev'ry five minutes, but just because the char is ugly!? Gah, baka.

Please tell me that the reviewer that thought the Petite Cossette character designs were ugly also said the Naruto character designs were awesome.

This review looks familiar! Didn't it come from www.themanime.org ?
Some of those reviews are awful.

I usually stick to ANN.com reviews. The reviewers do a decent job of getting to the point and not rambling on about something that they disliked about a certain anime.
All reviews are based on what someone's opinion. But you're right bum. That guy/girl sounds like an idiot. Character design can make a show more or less enjoyable but you don't base a review off of just that.
I don't really care for some of the character designs of Koi Kaze but the show as a whole isn't bad.

Charles Solomon, who reviews anime on Amazon, misses the boat a lot of the time. . .he discarded Haibane Renmei as a lifeless, boring show without having seen the whole thing. In general, he's old/curmudgeonly, and can't appreciate the zany/fun/fanservice angles that make certain shows good.
