To expand - those series should be easily available in most DVD stores. You can even rent them at Blockbuster or similar video rental venue, I believe.

As far as drawing - well, it's not just straight picture drawing, and there are current computer technologies which make the animation process more straightforward - but, if you're thinking of animation, the fact is - you better learn to draw a lot of pictures. All set and done, there could easily be hundreds of separate images (characters, backgrounds, etc., etc.) required to make even a minute or two of animation.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

To be more specific, ever second of animation usualy has about 8-12 actual drawn frames of animation. however it may occasionaly be more, like in scenes with complex, incredibly smooth animation such as most of Blood. Backgrounds and characters are drawn seperately to make things easier.

Well I mean when you get into it, there's always some recycling of frames and backgrounds, then there's cases where some of the in-between work can be done or simplified by computers - but if that sounds simpler than drawing it all by hand, in actuality it isn't.
The bottom line is, if you want to draw decent-looking animation - a) hire a professional team that can efficiently separate tasks and bring in a variety of skills (how all commercial anime is done, with one or two possible exceptions); or b) prepare to spend A LOT of time and effort to produce, at most, a short feature (look at Hoshi no Koe for an example of such an exception). Skills and patience required.

Suncoast has a whole wall of anime including lots of Inuyasha and .Hack//sign. You should watch Fullmetal Alchemist.
