Yokohama Kaidashi Kiko....wow!

Post by angelx03 » Tue Jun 28, 2005 9:39 am

It has cute female androids that takes place in the post-apocalyptic world! :o

Ok, that was a bad way to put it, but the execution of this little OVA series is quite something. You can read the synopsis here:

ANN wrote:In a peaceful post-apocalyptic world where the coasts have been flooded, Alpha is a robot left in charge of a Cafe by her owner who went off travelling. One day, she receives from him a package containing a camera, so that she might take pictures upon which she could later be able to reminisce. This brings Alpha to take closer notice of the little events of life and time around her.
I'll say this; it's VERY sedate and VERY relaxing. Basically the series took its time to have the viewers experience the "ironic" peaceful atmosphere, and it does a pretty good job on doing that. Anyone who likes sedate and atmospheric series like Someday's Dreamers and more or less Figure 17 and Air TV would definetely get a kick off of this OVA.

Too bad it isn't licensed yet. :(

Much <3 for YKK from me too. I wish they'd license the anime or manga already. Preferably both. :P

I can't imagine anyone doing a good job translating the manga, though. It's really nuanced. The guy who's been doing it on the web at least admits that there are parts he can't get quite right.

I still haven't watched the OVAs, but I've got five volumes of the manga in Japanese. Harder reading than, say, shoujo manga (which is predictable), but at least the dialogue is kinda sparse. Did I mention I suck goats at Japanese?

Ah, I really ought to get that manga in Japanese, too.

Lovely piece of work. It has some kind of hypnotic relaxing effect on me. Recommended to anyone, really.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Well, I just finished the Quiet Country Cafe part, and I really want to see more of it. I definetely agree with Oto about the series being relaxing yet very addicting; it's almost like euphoria. I guess I could check out the manga of this.

And I have to say, there's quite of bit of subtle fanservice in this arc.

Hmm... I've heard of this and I was so ure it was licensed. It's shoujo-ai, right? At least that's what I read from a review I saw a few months ago. Well, looks too easy-going for me, so I'll pass. :P
Be non-conformist! (Everyone's doing it!)
I guess Max Payne isn't much of a yaoi fan...

I think there's actually quite a bit of implied shoujo ai, but it's really not in any way sexual when you get down to it. I personally find that whole relationship cute to the point of inducing numerous "aww"'s even from me
