That can't be possible since Toonami itself said they'll be showing it in the summer.
They made a mistake. Shonen Jump, and nearly every website says the fall.
Shounen Jump is not airing the show, Toonami is, and they said it's coming out this summer and have even shown a commercial for it with the words "summer" all over it.

Then again, the first 20 days of September are summer, so it could be then. But if it is, my friends are gonna be pissed.

How in the name of GOD are they gonna be able to show Naruto on Toonami as is, considerng that people break their own fingers, crush people to bloody death with sand, and rip their own HEARTS AND BONES OUT OF THEIR BODIES!!?? This is gonna traumatize kids like crazy! They'd better show it at 10:30, or else. Oi.
They're probably going to hack it up like One Piece or DBZ. That will also delay the release dates of DVDs because of the time it takes to actually edit out certain content from footage. Just an idea, but it's the one i'm betting on based on the age group they are translating and releasing for.

Viz Media is not going to be that dumb enough to give it a total hack treatment like what 4kids did to One Piece. From what I heard in the AnimeOnDVD forums, all names will be kept, the original music will be mostly unchanged, and the blood will be toned down a bit.

That's correct.

Shopro said they will only edit any blood the flows in a graphic manner, and any scenes that are a bit heavy (like when Zaku's limbs explode in episode 40).

Shopro said they won't edit those parts out. Smoke already covers everything in the Sexy no Jutsu.

The real thing to woder about is major plot points. Having others acknowledge your identity is a major theme that goes throughout the series and it resonates more with the japanese culture than with anything you'd see on American TV. From a marketing standpoint i could see the dificulties in pushing the real themes in Naruto to an audience that dosn't have the same social structure without having it seem very emo and whiney. The target audience that shopro is gearing this release towards (as far as i have come to understand) is the 10 to 12 year old male demographic. For them to successfully pull off a marketing move that will ensure that that demographic is enthralled and willing to buy into this new phenominon (with this age group it's purely an unsubstantial "cool" factor over anything like content) they will have to appeal to the lowest denominator. Now i'm not saying that Naruto is a deep series; far from it. But it seems like the only way to make it sucessful in an American market geared to the target audience of 10 to 12 year old boys is to take away or significantly downplay the aspects of the series that may appeal to some (i.e. simplifying character motivation to make the series even more action oriented than it is already; reducing the drama that exists, or making said drama more comedic for a broader appeal to the demographic).

The success or failure of this project is being watched very closely by those in the industry, as many of you may already know, to gauge whether or not fansubbign helps or hurts foriegn liscensing efforts. From a business perspective, if Shopro wants Naruto to fail (in some sinister plot to give a reason for companies to crack down on fansubbers) then they will keep everything the same. But conventional wisdom (and lack of an aluminum hat to keep the voices out) says that some minor aspects of plot and content will probably be altered so that the show has more appeal on U.S. shores. This wouldn't nessisarily involve many actual cuts to the footage, but would be entirely based on the translation and the actual dubbing process itself. Inflection and tone of voice can significantly alter a character's personality and what he or she says can alter themes in such subtle ways that might put off some viewers (I really can't say... i hate most dubs anyway) and change the story slightly for the "good" of the company.
