Alright, let's try putting an anime spin on this to make it fit. In what anime shows do shikima appear?

Is that like Shikigami like in Inu-Yasha or Shaman King?

May also mean Shinma from Vampiver Princess Miyu, too.

They are considered demons or vampires.

There are a lot of anime out there that incorporate segments of japanese folklore. Some recent ones too include it.
