I was introduced to HxH after Naruto. Pretty much from people saying the same thing, "If you like Naruto, you'll like HxH." Personally I feel the series are seperate entities entirely. HxH being the newest project from the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho has a depth to it that Naruto seems to missing. Like Choca said it seems to be gritty where as Naruto is like a shiny new marble almost.

The story of HxH follows the typical Shonen format but seems to try and take it in a new direction. The idea of a Hunter seems to be more worldly than that of a ninja presented in Naruto. Naruto seems to skip over the fact that ninja's were used by both good and evil. They touched on this with Haku and Zabuza but let go of the idea with their betrayel. They made ninja's of Konoha out to be fighters of justice where as a Hunter can be what ever he pleases. A Hunter isn't bound by country or city. I like that aspect since it doesn't make all Hunter's seem like they are good guys. Or more to the point, it shows that they all have ambitions all their own regardless of wrong or right.

The manga itself took a random turn with the bug arc and frankly speaking it seems to make it unpredictable. I like that in a shonen since most follow a set formula now a days.

That because it's the same exact person.

Anyways, I personally enjoy HxH, it's a fun series. I haven't seen very far into it, only to about episode 6, but from what I've seen it's cool!

I see what you mean. HxH is more like real life whereas Naruto is more like fantasy. Though when you add it up they really are not all that different. Some Similarities:

They both have a boy as the main Character.
Neither of the main Characters think they have Parents(at first anyway)
They both deal with exams and trials
Both the main characters are trainees

Theres probably more, I just can't think right now.

1) That's just too...too general...

2) Gon knows exactly who his parents are. I mean, he left home in episode 1 to search for his father.

3) Both the Hunter Exam and Chuunin Exam cover a small fraction of each series. It's not fair to say they're similar just because of a single story arc.

4) I wouldn't call Gon a trainee, exactly. He has far more freedom in what he chooses to pursue while Naruto is stuck in a squad, with a leader, doing predetermined missions.

Not that I dislike Naruto at all or anything; I just don't feel that the two series can be called "similar". You could find just as many similarities between Naruto and Prince of Tennis than you could with HxH. :P

Thats the way I was looking at it. Only at some points in the storyline are there similarities, but your just trying to get people to see that they aren't very alike. I agree with you.
