Anime is a huge portion of Japanese tv. Every season an influx of about 70 new anime series are released in Japan. With that many new series its incredibly difficult to keep up with.

My only problem with this influx is the lack of creative put forth in most of them. For example, this new season seems to be almost entirely harem based. Harem's have always been the trend but now it seems to almost completely have saturated the market. It's reached at stale point where they've run out even somewhat believable plot lines.

The real trouble isn't keeping up with all the anime, it's finding the few that are worth watching.

Also very true. I would probably move to Japan if I ran out of anime. But that won't happen for a while.

I agree with the two before me. There couldnt be enough anime...besides only a handful of it is the really good stuff. There are so many genres and styles that one should not get tired of anime...but ofcourse DBZ can get tiresome after a while...get out and watch some real stuff!!

My problem is sifting the chaff from the wheat. What is good and what is bad? Anime is expensive and it is not right to judge a series just on the basis of four episodes. Buy two DVD volumes and you have spent $40-60 just to figure out what you are watching is worth it or not. It used to be better a while back when most of the titles brought over here were something special. Now you have no guarentee of that.

It is frustrating if you don't know how to determine the best things that are out there, but if you know where to look, the oversaturation of anime today is not such a bad thing.

True, true. But I have a Movie Trading Company by where I live and there you can order anime and rent it before you buy. Then if you like it you can buy it, but if not then you can just return it. It has a large selection of anime from all different genres. Of course not every city includes that does it. The summary is also a good thing to read but then again you can always talk to others who have seen the anime and see if they recommend it.

..hmmm....

Interesting...

I believe that with all things, there is only approximately 5% that is worth the money to buy. This is my general rule of thumb. My other rule is that if I paid the price that the company wants me to buy it at, then I got ripped off. There is always a way to get things for reduced cost, legally. The idea of 'too much' kind of makes sense...to a point. As with all things, the more people get involved the wider the viewpoints on all matters becomes, including what can be called 'good.'

Maybe the quality is going down, but the overall trick is never to buy something, and therefore, commit yourself before you know what you are getting into. (My third rule of thumb, yes I can have three...) Talk to your friends, talk to people on the .org, I recently asked in an open forum for people just to suggest some of their favorites...and it worked, that's how I found Lain and Rahxephon (thanks again Scintilla!) The best method is instead of focusing on the bad anime out there (yes it exists) focus on the good, and always remember what is good for me can suck for you, and vice versa.

Netflix also works well, but I suppose that's common knowledge by now...
