How many episodes?

Post by NiTsukiOutlaw » Fri Jul 29, 2005 12:20 pm

Okay...we all know that DBZ has too many episodes...

But what about other series, what is the 'standard' number of episodes for an anime. Gundam Wing has about 50. Love Hina has about 30. Hellsing has only 13...I think. Is there a standard in Japan for how many episodes to make? What do you think is the appropriate number of episodes before you need a change. And what about the movies....name some good ones, name some bad ones. The point of this thread is for me to determine whether or not I too expecting of studios to put on "more of a show" whether than stop something short.

(My example is FLCL, after watching it (I had already read the manga) I felt well, let down.)

ANy posts are appreciated.

I think you just answered your question. A show will run until the story ends. If it need 6 episodes to tell a story, the series will be 6 episodes. If it needs 200+ to tell the story, the series will be 200+ episodes long.

13, 24, and 26 episodes appear to be quite common. I suspect this relates to how many shows are in one season of Japanesse TV but I'm not sure.

The most standard anime season is 26 episodes, followed by 13 and 52 - because it conviniently divides by the number of weeks in the year (52), making the series easier to organize on television. Some deviate slightly from this for various reasons (24-28 eps, or 12-14, or 50-54), but it's generally in the ballpark.

Otherwise, it's however much a series really needs that is its' ideal length. FLCL is my ideal of perfect conciseness. But then Monster NEEDS the 78 or so episodes it will end up having.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Does it really matter how many episodes there is in a show :? ? You should enjoy the show befor it ends or stops or somthing like that.

I feel it matters...why? InuYasha is a prime example. I thought it started out great and would end up being something awesome...and what ended up happening? They decided to milk it till it was dry by dishing out damn near 200 episodes, more than half of which were really just beautifully animated filler, some of which were recycled filler...and even then it remained inconclusive.

But yeah, 26 is usually a perfect amount, some series require more, some require less but use more anyway, and some could use more but don't, which can also be a problem (primary example here: Angel Sanctuary).

Why should there even be a limit on the number of episodes? Go Doraemon!

(2000+ episodes and still going)

Woah! Yeh 2000+ I think 26 is good for a nice rounded, full length story. I get a bit bored to watch them all if there's loads more (unless it's totally amazing like cliffhanger after every episode). They shouldn't force any manga or story into a convenient number of episodes.

I got a bit bored of Tokyo Mew Mew lately (like episode 30 something) and one reason may be because of the length of all of it. Lots of anime are 26 episodes.......... or 13. I did wonder why. Didnt know it was because of dividing up the year.

I used to feel like i'd have to see every episode of everthing, i'm not so bothered with some stuff now.

FLCL can be described by just one word - MAD!!
Ours not to ponder what were fair in life
Bur finding what may be make it fair up to our means.
