My dad and mom still like Disney animation. They haven't seen much anime, they live to far away and are over 80.
My kids seem to think it's cool that I like anime. My wife doesn't like much of anything animated, her loss I guess. I have attended three cons with my son. They all were great fun and very informative, besides, I like pockey too. Parents should not make fun or scold their kids for enjoying anime, any more than they should be put down for the sports or sitcoms they watch. Anime is an enjoyable form of entertainment, they could be doing much worse things. As long as anime doesn't detract from schoolwork and the social needs of growing up, I think they should let you have fun with it. You can tell them that's an opinion from one old father.

Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

My Dad likes Inuyasha and started watching DBZ but quit when he realized that it was a "tin-plate turkey." For a long time he thought anime was junk (he'd seen Speed Racer and was unimpressed by the teenage boy with the cupie-doll eyes, and don't get him started on Sailor Moon). Then he found Inuyasha.
Now he sometimes expresses concern over my level of interest, but generally he's okay with it. Even enjoys it.
Of course, he also watches Looney Toons and enjoyed watching Blues Clues with my baby brother. So maybe he's just a big kid.
My Mom doesn't care for animated anything much. She's a very serious lady and prefers old mystery novels like Agatha Christy's books or even older novels like Emma and Pride And Prejudice. She usually leaves the room when the family sits down to a movie like My Neighbor Totoro. So sad.

so the book IS acturally called Emma.... She might consider watching the new anime of Emma. It just got done and is still in Japanese though. I have no idea if it's like the book or not but haven't heard any complaints.Brigid wrote:She's a very serious lady and prefers old mystery novels like Agatha Christy's books or even older novels like Emma and Pride And Prejudice.
