It just finished recently, but you should check out all 13 episodes of Victorian Romance Emma. I was surprised at how much I liked it since I am not one usually for period pieces and romance stories. It follows the story of William Jones, a member of the gentry in the late 1890's of England falling in love with the maid of his former governess. Her name is Emma and she captures Williams heart in a way he is not supposed to. At the time class and status was everything and the pairing of the two was frowned upon by almost everyone. It is a great series, very subtle and one of the most enjoyable things found in this wasteland summer of big boob/big explosions.

This is the best romance story I have seen in years.. definately worth the time to watch.... :D
If it can't be expressed in numbers or figures, it is an opinion - Robert Heinlein
Like anime? Cosplay? Crossovers? AMVs? You need to go to....

A necropost occurs when a brand new post has been added to a discussion that has ended and members of the forum have forgotten about it. Most topics end after no one has added anything to the discussion a week after the last post has been made. Necroposts tend to be annoying to some members, depending on how much time has elapsed between the "final" post and the new necropost. Sometimes, necroposting occurs to topic that have been dead for over a year. The best way to prevent this is to just begin a brand new topic. By the way, necro means dead and post means...well, post obviously.
Probably too busy to be here right now.

Yeah, everyone here would say Fushigi Yuugi and I agree but after watching like the last eight episodes (along with that movie thingy), IN ONE SITTING, I couldn't stand it anymore. I absolutely hated Miaka and Tamahome. It was quite funny! And then there's Sailor Moon; one of the most gushy of them all. But we still love it I guess. :P

Anyone know of any good romantic anime (or manga for that matter) that doesn't involve lots of fanservice and sex?

I've got a little sister who's really into the interpersonal relationships and developing bonds that are almost the trademark of shojo anime, but couldn't stand Fushigi Yugi for the reasons stated above.

She really likes Fruits Basket, though.

Kare Kano and I, My, Me Strawberry Eggs sound promising. Any others?

I x2 Bob Barker's opinion of this show, and add that it is perfect for you, Brigid, because it is not fanservicey at all and there is no sex. Furthermore, if you end up liking it, check out the manga, since the anime only follows about 2 volumes of the 5 volume (and counting) manga.
