What exactly IS a 'hardcore' anime fan?
I just want to see your definition of it, because by one of my friend's defintions, I'm not a 'hardcore' anime fan because I don't go to at least one major con a year. The hell with cons. They aren't all that enjoyable, in my opinion. Does that make me less of an anime fan? No. Hell, I could come up with a reason to call you a fake anime fan because you download it, but that doesn't make you 'less' of an anime fan. I'm not satisfied with this current definition of 'hardcore' anime fan my friend's given me. Just wondering what you guys think a 'hardcore' anime fan is. I just see it as, you watch and like anime, hey, you're a hardcore anime fan, in my eyes.

alright, in short, that fat nerdy guy off Paranoia Agent.
for those who didn't see it, then i'd say anyone who owns more than 300 different series/movies/manga, only wears anime related merchandise, has an anime hair style and a closet full of cosplay outfits they wear regularly. and just for kicks, has brutally hurt more than 10 newbies after ease dropping in there conversation and noticed they made a slight mistake like "Frieza has 3 forms".

Life is but a dream.....So what happens when you wake up?

As far as I'm concerned, "hardcore anime fan" is a worthless phrase to try to define... because it matters not one scintilla who's more into it than whom and by how much.
Who's to decide criteria for something like that?
Your friend seems somehwat insecure about his/her fandom, calling you "not hardcore" and all. Wonder if s/he realizes it.
On a similar thread, there was once said that you're not really a "true otaku" until you turn into a house. I'll leave it at that.

This is a funny thread. I have this argument all the time with some of my anime friends. I skateboard and that is my main passion, but I really like anime. The agruments my friends come up with are always "You only watch anime that has been aired on Toonami and Adult Swim" and that doesn't make me a "hardcore" fan. I'm fine with not being "hardcore", but I'm even more fine with people being "hardcore." Whatever blows your hair back right?
It's almost like music, if it's on Mtv the hardcore kids hate it or if they liked the band they start to hate them.
I guess a truly hardcore anime fan is a person who spends most of there time watching, drawing, and thinking about anime all day long. They also have to argue with anyone they believe is ignorant of anime and I believe they are annoyed with much of the televised shows. I don't mean all "hardcore" anime kids, but out of the people at my school that seems to be the case.
Well that's my two cents on it.
