It's a matter of opinion. Personally, I think the Eva TV show is good - not the best, but good.
The Manga, on the other hand, is the almighty GOD of all comicdom. There... I said it... that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Yes, Evangelion is overrated. Yes, Akira is overrated. But that doesn't mean that they aren't good series.

A t what point did Evangelion "make fun" of other religions? As far as I know parts of other religions, Christianity in particular, were used as inspiration to the storyline and some parts even taken directly and then altered slightly for the plot.

It doesn't make fun, but it presents things in a manner that the traditional and majority orthodoxies do not believe or care for.

Be perfectly clear about this. The good folks of Gainax did not set out to make fun of or warp anyone's faith. They were just looking for a "mythology" to use for the background of their story. When I say "mythology" I speak of the background and ethos associated with it. They even said after the controversy arose to a fever pitch with Christians that they were just looking for a vehicle for their story. If they could have done it again, they would have done something more with aliens and less with Judeo-Christian traditions.

Christianity is a very small percentage of the beliefs in Japan. There is a current fascination with it, but not so much people adopting the beliefs as they are intrigued by it all. We've seen a number of anime series with Christian overtones, but I don't think you could say that they were written with any agenda either pro or against. It was just exploring things that the people in Japan had not had a lot of exposure to.

I watched it alot and I still don't understand the fact that the music is rubbish.lol. As for the N.G.E, this is more of the well dark stuff e.g "angles trying to kill". As for the evas 01 is the best looking and kick ass really. Rei needs a make over badly even through she a clone, she still U.G.L.Y

I really enjoyed it. I wish I could find a sub of EOE r the death and rebirth, I forgot witch one. Anywho, God is in his Heaven and all is right with the world...I think that how it goes. I got the NERV parking permit thing on my truck...its uber cool.
