Unsuccessful adaptations of Gundam anime to manga is nothing new, actually.
The manga versions of Wing and G were horrendous at best, Kondo's adaptation of MSG is decent storywise, but the art is...no (his mecha look well enough, but his people are a mess.)
So far the only adaptation manga I've seen in the franchise with any sort of potential is Gundam: The Origin...which is a full-on retelling of the original story that doesn't try to rush things (...unfortunately, apparently Viz didn't feel it was selling well enough since we haven't seen new volumes for it in ages.)
By comparison, SEED's adaptation manga is decent...although GODDAMN did they make the cast look effeminate. (Seriously...a little of that goes a long way...some of those people I couldn't even recognize at first.)

I got to agree with you there. The entire last half completly ignored the manga. The NEW Hellsing series, which just came out/just comming out in in Japan supposidly is nearly spot on with the manga. If you haven't seen the trailer, find it, it looks awesome.Heero_Yuy84 wrote:While it started out strong, the later eps of Hellsing (8, 9 and then 11-13, I think...can't remember the later ep's def number I'm thinking of (the one where they finally covered the chapter on how Integra first enlisted Alucard)) just kind of fell flat compared to the manga. Incognito was prettymuch a copout.

Actually, the anime REMOVED MOST of the fanservice. The anime seriously sucked compared to the manga, but the story was pretty much the same, minus almost all fanservice.

speaking of deathnote becoming a crappy anime, 2 live action movies are going to be made of deathnote. crappy manga to liveaction thread? -__-;
Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles went from manga to anime kind of shakily. I mean, the begining was just dragged on and on and on so 26 episodes=8 books (or something like that. maybe 9)
Oh another one is fruits basket. the anime wasn't necessarily bad, it was just.. missing loads of stuff ._. mostly because the manga went ahead where the anime left, so they were suppose to be different... but it felt too short (the anime)

Probably. Berserk's a good show on it's own but it doesn't compare to the manga at all.mcwhirlpool inc wrote:Worst manga turned anime...Berserk.
Dominion Tank Police's manga was far better than either animated adaptation as well. Both shows were basicallly highlights of a small part of the manga and can't stand on their own.
And I love the FMA manga a lot more than the show, though the show is still quite good. I just prefer the manga's more intricate storyline.

That's how I feel about GTO. I like the anime series, but I prefer the manga. It has more to the plot, and I like the way things are presented in the manga rather than the anime.generalhs wrote:And I love the FMA manga a lot more than the show, though the show is still quite good.
