Sorry, guys, but Eva WON'T be coming out any time soon. They've put it on hold, waiting to see how other Anime-made-live-action movies do - Battle Angel Alita, Monster, and a few others. WETA, Gainax, and ADV all want to see Eva made, but problems with the script and previously-booked gigs for WETA have made the project stay put for a while.

One thing they're hoping to see is whether they can do it as a series or as a single movie; if Anime-based movies are as well-done and as popular as Comicbook-based movies like X-Men and Spider-Man, they can do Eva successfully as a trilogy, because there's a good chance people will want to see all three. However, if they only do marginally well, they'll try to do it in a single movie. A trilogy would be much more loyal to the original story, though liberties will be taken in each. But remember, just because it's being backed by America doesn't mean it's going to suck; LOTR didn't suck, and both Gainax and ADV have their hands deep in Eva.

And as for Saikano, I hope it's good... well, as good as a live-action Japanese film can be. I've not seen a well-made, non-animation Japanese film since Akira Kurosawa's days; they just generally suck at acting...

From the trailer, it looks promising. The effects are as good as can be for a Japanese film budget, and as far as I can tell look fairly realistic. I hope the movie does well, but I'm not expecting anything great
I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to Death
Nor known to Life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, unlimited blade works.

This is the same situation as video games being ported over to movies.
Pretty much all of them have flopped.
As for live action movies Im not sure.
The video game movie will be silent hill. They rejected the MGS movie but wanted this instead. Im just hopping they dont screw this up. Just like all the other movies. And make htis one of the scariest movies ever created.
From the trailer it looks promising.
Comic Book translatioins have been fairly well. With spider man. And the superman movie will come out soon as well as the 3 spider man movie.

Saikano is one of my fav animes, so i hope that the live action doesn't turn out bad. From the info i read on the site, the trailer, and the pics, it looks like it has some nice effects, and the actors/esses don't seem like they'd be too bad, so yeah...^^ (i'm not really good at Japanese so i could only read lil bits and pieces... @_@)

Saikano

Post by Stonewolf » Tue Mar 07, 2006 4:07 pm

Well, I am from Czech Republic, and from my point of wiew, my only hope to see this movie is to download it, because there is definitely no chance to see this in our theaters. But I am suprised I am not able to find more information about Saikano live action in english. It looks like nobody has seen it, and nobody is able to write some sort of report. I think it is strange...
P.S. I am sorry form my english, so please forgive me my mistakes:-)
