Moving Castle loses Oscar. good game guys
Though it is a huge honor for anime to be once again nominated for an academy award, Miyazaki's "Howl's Moving Castle" lost the Oscar for Best Animated Feature to the Aardman's (A British claymation studio) Wallace & Grommit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Both were done extremely well, but as an Otaku, it is sort of dissapointing for the loss, but Wallace & Grmomit were certainly worthy of it. The other film in the category was Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, another stop-motion film and the only one from the U.S.A. Oddly enough, there were no CGI films nominated this year, as they've taken over the industry as of late.

For some reason, it amused me that 2 of the three nominees were foreign films...

The studio that made Wallace and Gromit burnt to the ground late last year, so perhaps it was a sympathy vote. I wasn't surprised that Wallace and Grommit won, though to be honest I didn't see any of the films nominated for Oscars, except for the one they nominated William Hurt for.

I think that's perhaps a bit unfair. W&G is a very good movie, infact all three are good movies. But W&G probably has more universal appeal. Especially to us Brits.azulmagia wrote:The studio that made Wallace and Gromit burnt to the ground late last year, so perhaps it was a sympathy vote.
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

I am not disagreeing with that, but all things considered it's pretty obvious that the Academy isn't in the habit of awarding films or individuals solely on artistic or talent grounds. It's a question of guessing what the non-artistic motives are. It would be outrageous if Howl's Moving Castle lost because Aardman's studios burnt down, but it's certainly not outside the realm of the reasonably possible.)v(ajin Koji wrote:I think that's perhaps a bit unfair. Well, Wallace is just a classic. All of them, and it deserved it. Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle was good, but it had a lot of flaws imo. It was good nonetheless; but Burton's Corpse Bride was really boring for me, if I hadn't paid the ticket admission I probably wouldn't finish watching it. Also the ending was cheesy; I think it was a good choice, and Miyazaki won last year's, so ....
