Too old for their age?

I felt the kids in Alien Nine were spot on for their age. But I also thought the whole show was deeply messed up because of it. I found it hard to believe any government or society would hand a dangeous life threatening job such as animal control (or in this case, alien control) to grade school children. Especially in the manga were the kids repeatedly die. It's not like the show was a parody or a comedy, thn they could have gotten away with it, but it was a serious drama. If you're going to make a drama, I would recheck all of your plot points, because through out the whole show, that's what I kept asking myself, "what kind of society would put normal children into mortal peril like this?"

I have to agree with Sarah, though only 98% of the characters in anime are 14. I think the fact that you have plots involving children written by adults that leads to the unusually adult anime children. No matter how we try, adults will see the world differently than teenagers do. As you grow older, you have much more memories and experience to draw from, this colors your view of the world.
