I've only read the manga and seen the anime for a few series, but essentially what I like is that they each take on a different approach to their storylines.
GTO
The manga, The live action, the anime.
I liked all three equally, but for different reasons. I liked the different emphasis on the characters for each of them. I recomend all three of these to anyone.
Chobits
The manga, the anime
The Manga certainly was more coherent in terms of it's story and presentation. Reading it, all the stupid loopholes that are glaringly patent in the anime get covered. The emphasis is more on maturity and accepting that it's ok to love someone for who they are with no hope of EVER having a physical relationship. The Anime was a lot prettier, and much easier to just kick back and watch. I liked the characters and the dramatic tensions that the Seiyuu added to the show.
Alien 9
The mana definately covers alot of ground in terms of story. Its dark and malevolent in places. I had no idea where the story was going to go at any particular time. The anime was 'fun' the ultimately it seemed like the sort of thing that I've seen a dozen or more times.
Ai Yori Aoshi
The manga had a much more mature feel to it than the anime. The characters seemed more human and complex. The main character, frustrated by being surrounded by hordes of beautiful girls wonders why he can never get laid... the matron/chaperone looks at her naked body in a mirror and wonders at the 'wicked thoughts' in her mind and if it makes her a bad person. In the Anime (one of my favorites by the way) the characters rarely ever step out of their stereotypes and the story progresses rather predictably.
Love Hina
The manga has too much wackyness to it. The anime itself is a perfect example of it's genre and is still very watchable today.
Full Metal Panic
The manga has depth and complexity that is barely touched by the show. On the other hand the show was able to portray the mecha in a great way. The action scenes in the show, especially the second raid were stunning. The comedy in Fumoffu literally had my almost passed out from lack of oxygen to my brain from laughing too hard.

Odd, I always used this one as an example of a manga I far and above prefer to anime. I thought the anime was a little too stuck on showing off the idiosyncracies of the genre and missing some of the wackiness that actually made the manga awesome.madbunny wrote: Love Hina

Differen perspectives, eh, what can you do
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I liked the manga, but thought that it kind of went off on some really weird tangents. It helps to bear in mind that Love Hina is pretty dated by now, so a lot of the stuff that's cliche now was less so then. To me at least. Like you said.. different perspectives. In general terms though, I really liked the way that it was translated compared to some. Clean and easy to read, the signs were translated and the er... reaction symbols were left the way they should be.Otohiko wrote:Odd, I always used this one as an example of a manga I far and above prefer to anime. Akira is definatly an example of why manga is better than anime. 6 big volumes condensed into 130mins. The manga is alot different to the anime. Hellsing my favourite anime and manga. The anime is completely different to the manga - after volume 2 of the manga. The manga is far better.
By the way may favourite animes in order are
Hellsing
Serial Experiments lain
Cowboy Bebop

Hmm... I like both equally I guess. But if I had to choose, then manga. Like some manga SHOULDN'T become anime, for example: Death Note. I mean, come on... it was meant to be anything BUT an anime. I think they're making an anime out of it though, I'll probably watch it some time. Anyways (sorry for getting of topic) I like manga better I like reading more than watching TV/Movies/ect. I just get fidgety and stuff when I try watching TV and I want to DO something. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually very lazy. I just don't like doing NOTHING but staring at something. So, turning pages is something at least. Anyways.... there are more reasons but I can't explain them (I'm not the brightest bulb you see...)
Oh, I almost forgot. Obviously since they don't have to draw as much for the manga, I like the art better because it's more detailed.

Well I think the same, manga is always better than anime cuz Tv Tokyo sadly must agree about some rules when they make an anime, is not their fault.in my oppinion wrote:Manga are always a trillion times better because people go scissor-happy and slash away when converting the storyline to anime. Then to make up fo it they create fillers, which invariably suck grass and make you wish to kill everyone at TV Tokyo. Also because mangas are a lot more personal than anime, and I love to just stare at how beautifully drawn some of them are, like Episode G or anything from CLAMP. I love CLAMP.
For example, if I buy a manga of Naruto, of course the manga has more details and more violence than the anime. But it's not TV Tokyo fault. The fault is about those moralists who say "Hey, that anime contains too much violence or nudity" PLEASE! Think it, if that moralists doesnt make trouble I bet TV Tokyo shall put animes more fun, anyway, its also too much expensive put a complete manga on an anime.
For example, my favorite anime has 224 episodes, but on manga them are 343 issues. Think, if Tv Tokyo would put 343 episodes that shall be more expensive and more difficult to others get the anime for watch it. I think the problem is not only the rules, I think the problem is also the money from the audience.
Here the Odds:
Manga: All details and story line from the original creator.
Anime: No all details and some ideas can be changed, but you have animation, color, sound, voices and music.
disadvantages :
Manga: Buy it dear...and you must find the shop (In Uruguay is very hard find in the fact, just one shop has mangas . I must go to argentina for get my mangas)
Black and White graphics (almost them)
Anime: Cut scenes, no all details, changes on the story line and maybe the creator isnt drawing there and some details from the characters can be messed. And childness style always.
Well that was my opinion, I respect other's opinions so respect mine...
