A couple suggestions for other characters. (No clue about Ed):

Lust/Aria - Yes!

Val Kilmer/Greed - Nuh Uh!(maybe Hohopapa)

Naga/Scar - forget it, he'd make a better Greed.

my picks.
Scar - Hell! let his voice actor do it and be done with it, anyone else would just seem like a fool trying to sound like that, maybe Mickey Rourke.

Sloth - Jennifer Conelly(doesn't have that cocky attitude like Kidman)

Gluttony - After seeing Spawn, anyone could do it.

Alphonse - Anyone for the armor, use real VA's voice like with Vader.

Pride - Christopher Lee...hell.
Life is but a dream.....So what happens when you wake up?

Seriously, it doesn't really matter whether you think it needs to be remade or not, I seriously doubt a remake of the anime would ever happen. The anime is insanely popular as is, so I just don't see the studio re-doing it. Why would they? They have a huge audience base who is perfectly happy with where the show went. Since its so popular as is, it doesn't make sense for them to spend money doing a re-make that might not even have a significantly large market.

And yes, Hellsing's insane popular too, but waas remade. The difference is I think that even the people who liked the original Hellsing were dissappointed with the ending, since it didn't resolve anything. And Hellsing is a lot shorter, therefore much easier to remake.

I have nothing against the anime, but I want to see the manga version get a chance to be animated. I'm not saying discard the first anime, I want them both. The manga more though.

But I hate the thoughts of ANYTHING live action.

I agree, this should not be done in live action for real. That would just be weird. But the "what if" convo is kinda funny.

Sloth-Jenifer Conelly (yes)
Pride-Christopher Lee (yes)

As far as Scar goes, Ishbal seems to have a Middle Eastern look/feel to it, therefore I thought that Scar should be played by a Middle Eastern actor. Or someone who at least looks it. Maybe Dennis Quaid as Ed & Al's Dad? (Hohopapa as you put it. lol) Tom Felton as the imposter Ed? Cillian Murphy as Barry the Chopper? And now that you mention Spawn, it would be funny to have John Leguizamo as Gluttony. He does great voices and has already been put in a big suit in Spawn. lol.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Staying on topic, it would be cool to have it redone. It would not take away from the manga. It would be like a supplement to it. Granted, you will have the lazy people who will watch the anime in lieu of reading the manga, but the people who read the manga won't stop reading it. IT will just be cool to see what you've read come to life. And even for the people who don't read the manga, they would be getting more out of the series. They would get to see what the manga readers see. Maybe even get them to read the manga.

I get what your saying, there are some things that i would liked to have seen from the manga in anime.

Ling and that little girl for one
Winry about to pop Scar(which chapter BTW?)
Super Bite Gluttony
Mean Jesus/other HohoPapa
Manga Sloth
The Chimera's chase Al through Dublith

and that doesn't even the really funny jokes not seen on the show.

Or Barry and Falman living together.

Manga Sloth has only had one part so far, they mention him in chapter 38 I believe. That's all he's gotten so far though, I hope he'll appear soon though with a big part.

yeah im still waiting for Sloth to do some thing in the manga. when he's called Sloth (especially in the manga) his name litterally means it. as for the live action thing NO. but i do have a suggestion for Ed. the dude who played Constantine's sidekick. i cant remember his name though.

I wouldn't want to risk it... Look at what happened to Neon Genesis Evangelion when some fans wanted a remake to the ending? They turned an artistic ending into a horror movie! (Or at least that's what I think). If they redid FMA, they might turn it into something horrible... I think it is fine just the way it is, but I do agree that the Manga is better. Then again, all book rip offs are horrible....
