Canada in Anime

Post by R-A-N-M-A » Sat Jul 01, 2006 4:49 pm

In honour of Canada's 139th let's ee how many referances to Canada can be found in anime. If any one can put the list over 5 I'll be shocked. The only one I can personally think of is the Canadian ambassidor's son in the first season of Stand Alone Complex.

The Melencholy of Haruhi Suzumiya strikes again! :o
After Yuki defeated and made Asakura disappeared, Yuki made up a story saying that Asakura moved to Canada. I believe it was brought up again when Haruhi questioned some green-haired girl about the whereabouts of her boyfriend.

InuYasha, Ranma, Gundam series, Card Captor Sakura, DBZ, and SoulTaker were all dubbed by the Ocean Group which is located in Canada. Does that count? hehe.

Almost all dubbed animes nowadays are either done in Canada or Texas.

Kenada

Main character from Akira. Canada isn't as cool as Kenada, but they share the same characteristic of having to deal with an insane and power hungry acquitance.

Yeah, I think it was either the second last episode or last episode (damn, I couldn't remember) when this crazy Russian or German chick from the KGB (I think, still could be wrong...arrrrgghhh) killed one of our mounties (or RCMP for more serious term)...and then there was a Canadian flag somewhere in the background.

In the RPG Sailor Moon: Another Story, Sailor Jupiter has to visit a village in Canada.

Akage no Anne is the anime adaptation of Anne of Green Gables.

CBC is mentioned in Cowboy Bebop, I believe. But it's a different CBC altogether.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam, Neo-Canada's fighter Andrew Graham is a recurring character (in part due to his swearing vengeance on Neo-Russia's Argo Gulsky...to this end, to match a guy like that, he's naturally no lightweight...Hell, the guy's built like a fridge.)
