He was and wasn't... it's wierd. Izumi created the Homonculus of her still-born son, then transmuted it. It was accepted into the Gate, and apparently became, or was its body was inhabitted by, one of the little black beings that appear in the gate (these are either the souls of those from our world, or things to take the place of Truth).
And as to why Bradley would need to reproduce and age? Simple: plausibility. Think about it: what if Bill Clinton never aged a day? Wou;dn't people begin to notice after, say, ten or fifteen years? If something's amiss, people will begin to ask questions; the more people ask question, and the more powerful those people who ask, the shorter the time you'll be able to hide a secret (this is why Hitler had Eva Braun as a mistress, despite an enormous amount of recently-uncovered evidence that he was homosexual).
And Homoculi supposedly could never have children, right? At least not to anyone ELSE'S knowledge; so by having a child that is genetically your own, and have several people be witness to its birth, it removes all doubt from anyone's mind that you may not be human.
Of course, the latter part of that theory is just to stop those extreme conspiracy theorists. Infertility is of course believable, perhaps a wound recieved in a past war, and having an adoptive son is just as plausible; but it's just that extra little bit of believability that make the rouse complete.
Dante didn't want ANY doubt in ANYONE'S mind that the Fuhrer was anything but an Amestrian militarist; that he wasn't anything BUT human.
Should the FMA anime be redone?

sorry for the double-post...
You're right... I did forget that Wrath can stretch like crazy. But, as I recall, only the part of him that was Homonculoid; I don't remember him ever stretching his human arm and leg.

Alright Im Back!....basically my DSL was down but now im ok.
1st: Didn't Roy or one of them say that the Furhers son wasn't his when they were looking into what Al said about him.
2nd: about him having a patch could of happened at any point in his life as an excuse for him to cover his eye.
3rd: from what i know he's able to age, joined the military, survived war without a scratch because of his eye(lucky bastard) and became Furher around his fourties and started all kinds of shit to get ingredients for the philosophers stone in order to serves both masters.
AND...since i had nothing better to do it gave me time to use my brain and i thought of the one reason why FMA animated to the manga wouldn't work which could possibly be the reason it wasn't done.
My Reason is....
seeing how long the manga is so far, imagine how long the anime would be, and you know they're gonna toss in some more fillers like Ed vs. Roy and Armstrongs sister, which will basically make it a 100+ episode series which will start to wear on your nerves halfway through because it feels like nothings getting done.

No they won't. -_- If they WAIT until the manga is FINISHED, they won't need ANY filler. Filler is only there when the anime catches up to the manga (if it's still going). But take a look at YYH for an example, the manga was already done when they started the anime, and 112 episodes with no filler. Amazing! :O
And...it's NOT that long, take a look at One Piece or Dragonball Z or something, they did those. FMA would be, maybe as long as YYH, who cares? Length doesn't matter. I say when the manga FINISHES, they should animate it.
