On the topic of imagining you're in an anime, (and I hope everyone realizes my last post about the magic genie is a joke. :P ) I occasionally dream in anime. Its pretty cool, but kinda sad, b/c I will usually switch to anime mode b/c the dream involves Sousuke from FMP. Though its cool b/c I'm usually helping him on rescue missions. While I sometimes wonder what its like to be in the anime, many times, those thoughts will get played out in the dreams. And I probably just made myself sound like the most pathetic, psychotic nerd in the world. *Goes and hides in a corner. One with a tv/DVD player and anime.* :D

Don't worry about being considered strange around here. We've got pleanty of whack jobs here. As for me, I have always wanted to be in other worlds. I don't think I've ever wanted to be somewhere more than Spira in Final Fantasy 10. Although, now I have grown out of it (and final fantasy games for that much) and currently I have wished to be like Kino (from The Beautiful World), traveling the World, and learning about everything.

I write a bit of fanfiction, and one of the more interesting stories I've got going is an Evangelion self insert. The important point between writing or thinking about this stuff as some grade school fantasy, and participating in it at a mature level is that you're expanding the content, or manipulating the plotline along a unique direction.

In essence, you're not doing the Harry Potter crap of the miraculous savior self-insert character who goes in and plays Superman. Rather, irony, other weaknesses, humor, and adding a taste of reality to the story often improves it.

That's the one thing I hated about Eva, is how fake the series comes off as. Gundam falls into the same category (except for 0083, which is by far my favorite), especially when regarding mechs. The closest I've seen to a practical mech series is Patlabor, and maybe Full Metal Panic (at least Patlabor has a believeable reason for giant robots to be used for law enforcement, and FMP just has a more serious tone).

However, a properly written fanfic can put a spin on the plotline and characters which not only give you a chance to explore the world, but give the series a depth and reality it didn't have before.

I just finished watching Nausicaa. Having just ridden a jet ski for the first time in my life last month, I really wanted to try out that wind glider as well, looked like a ton of fun!
