Anime Suggestions (Very Picky...)
I know most of you out there are getting pretty sick and tired of the "anime suggestion thread, but I'm in desprate need of some open suggestions. So far, I possess the following anime:
Chobits
NGE
Chrono Crusade
Angelic Layer
The Beautiful World (Kino's Journey)
If it has ever been aired on Adult Swim, I've seen it. I'm looking for something like The Beautiful World. An anime that has secular themes in it. But any anime like any of the above would be great!

If you're already a Clamp fan, try X the series out.
Now, don't feel bad. It's not you, it's me. I Don't Like You. -.-

Well, for anime available as fansubs now, I'd recommend Black Lagoon (I pretty much recommend that to anyone, regardless of what they like-yes, it's that good). Black Cat is also an option, but that gets kind of tiring after a while.
You may want to take a look at Crest of the Stars/Banner of the Stars/Banner of the Stars II. That's just a good overall anime saga that anyone can sit through (though the dubbed voice actors are VERY monotone in their delivery).

Well, I have two excellent animes to suggest, though I'm not sure how "secular" their themes may be.
The first is Monster. One of my favorites, this is a mix of The X-Files and The Fugitive, with more than a bit of The Usual Suspects mixed in - see the AMV, it's very fitting. God and Satan are mentioned quite a bit, and you deifinitely get the feeling you're watching something that has subtle allusions to The Omen, but it's still amazing. In 72 episodes, it breaks - or rather obliterates - every convention and stereotype that Anime has taken decades to amass: smooth, clean animation; realistic and diverse character designs; down-to-earth, non-slapstick, comedy (when there are any, which there aren't very often); and a widely non-Japanese cast of characters.
Next... Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo. Based on, you guessed it, Alexandre Dumass' Le Comte de Monte Cristo, there is only one way to describe this show, as I have before and will again: Visual Orgasm. The quality of animation rivals Miyazaki and Disney, and the texturing - rather than color-filling - is unreal. Told from the point of Albert de Marsef, the story is a sci-fi twist on the latter half of the novel, and, in many ways, improves upon it. Despite the idea of putting a Pre-Revolutionary French story in a timeline far in the future, the transition is flawless; the setting and characters are so believeable, one would almost think that Dumass himself wrote it as such. You become so engulfed in the litteral and visual beauty of the piece that you want to just sit and watch it all the way through (trust me, I've done it... you never regret a minute).
However, being a Dumass-based piece, it makes allusions to God and Christianity quite often. Still though, they are overbearing themes as in Evangelion, but rather a seamless addition to the world, adding that much more realism to the whole - as they should be.

It's a fun show. If you like it you might want to look into clamp stuff like Cardcaptor Sakura (not cardcaptors), Kaleido star, and xxxHolic (no actual xxx in it).code_chrono wrote:Those were all great suggestions, and I appriciate them a lot! Actually, I went and found a strange one to go and buy. Fruits Basket! Lol... I couldn't help myself... It looked really good!
Karas is great, hope they release the rest soon. Similar to Karas you might look at Witchblade, or tokko devils awaken.
