ive seen most of what ever DBZ they put on cartoon net work but ive also seen every naruto ep. to date... i have to say the fillers are definatly well crap but the manga is were the the story line continues an if a few of you would read say chapters 280-320 you would have a better idea of why people choose to watch the anime. 'cause there waiting for the fillers to stop.
P.S. im a hard core naruto fan

okay, so in the end, do more people think it's a good enough show to buy/support or is it just good enough to watch for free (ie find unofficial sources)?
personally i am currently purchasing the manga as it's released in volumes in the US by shonen jump, so i guess that means i support the show enough, i'm a big fan of the art-work, i don't know if that's how all of kishimoto's mangas look like (if he has others) but that's one of the things that hooks me
of course i'm still a big fan of how the action's done, sort of a big intriquite way where every move is carefully planned instead of a... how you say... button-mash format
and of course the characters are built in depth enough where they're alive, not saying they're close to real ppl, but they're built enough to get the job done imo
as far as the anime is concerned, i regrettably haven't watched any episodes in english, so i'm not sure if i would support it yet, but from what i hear it's as good as the original, any comments?

I wouldn't say it is as good as the orginal. Some of the voices work decently, like Kakashi (though a little too stoic), but when the main character sounds a little too hyper and on helium, you end up ripping your ears out in seconds. Believe IT!Daio Kaji wrote: as far as the anime is concerned, i regrettably haven't watched any episodes in english, so i'm not sure if i would support it yet, but from what i hear it's as good as the original, any comments?
("Believe it", his catch phrase )
I'd be content enough staying with the manga and Japanese Version.

The dubbing for the english version really isn't that bad. If you hate reading subs, and you're used to english dubbing, you'll probably think it's ok. Considering you have'nt seen the japanese version, that should make it all the better since you would'nt have anything to compare the english dubbing to. Dubbing aside, it's only real flaw is how censored it is comprared to the japanese version. Apparently, (if it's not on Adult Swim) Cartoon Network can't show too much in the way of blood.
The only real reason I'd recommend the japanese dubbed version of Naruto is because there way far ahead of the english version (For obvious reasons).

"Cartoon Network can't show too much in the way of blood. " I thought the exact same thing until they started showing the UNCUT version of DBZ (not on Adult Swim, believe it or not). I talked with my other cousin (a huge fan of Naruto and DBZ) last night and he even said the uncut was pretty bad. There was more then enough blood gushing everywhere and there were cuss words every minute, which kinda turned me off considering little kids were probably watching it since it wasn't on Adult Swim.sayde wrote:The dubbing for the english version really isn't that bad. Now that, I didn't know. By the time the uncut versions came on, I had already grown tired of the show--hence, I didn't watch as much.Lortenian wrote: I thought the exact same thing until they started showing the UNCUT version of DBZ (not on Adult Swim, believe it or not). If you were referring to me with the first part, you a slightly mistaken. I watched the sub version up untill Just before Naruto and Haku's fight (they took them off of Toryama's World since it was then licensed) and I was excited to see it come to america. However, I was turned off by the dub from the moment I heard Naruto and the american them song. When it comes to bad dubs, I do perfer to watch japanese subs and use the american ones as either a piece of comic relief or a good torture method for other anime fans.sayde wrote:The dubbing for the english version really isn't that bad. In regards to editing, just because there is no blood does not make the show less desierable. DBZ lasted this long completly edited on TV, hell from Radditz up until the Freeza sage, you could not get Uncut DBZ eps on DVD and still the series lived. The only anime I can think of that I have seen that would be hurt from censorship would be Elfen Lied. Every other could survive. And if Toonami is releaseing the *new* episodes of DBZ fully uncut on Toonami, good for them. It's time those damn little kids got a taste of what some anime is really like. I hate it most when anime are edited to the extent that they no longer are the same story or show (see Cardcaptors).
My rant is over, back to Naruto. I will hold my position that Naruto is nothing more than DBZ with ninjas. And insted of charging up Chi for ten episodes, you build up chakra for three. I'm just waiting to see Naruto take twenty five episodes of mental preparation to stab someone with a shirken.

Actually Krisqo, that first comment in my previous post was directed towards Daio Kaji.
Anyways, about the one thing I feel Naruto deserves credit for at the very least is the fact that the fights don't drag on that long at all. They don't draw out a fight for 10 or 20 eps just for the sake of doing so.

As opposed to "this planet will explode in 5 minutes" where "minutes" means "seasons". The comparison to DBZ is inevitable, as they're both big animated fight tournaments for kids.sayde wrote:Anyways, about the one thing I feel Naruto deserves credit for at the very least is the fact that the fights don't drag on that long at all. Another good thing about the show is that they plan ahead. One evil foe doesn't wait to appear after the other ones have been defeated, which gives the story a better integration (this ignoring the fillers, of course).
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.
