Well lets see. I have been into anime ever since I was probably 5 or 6. That would be 17 or 18 years total. My first anime seen was actually Dominion Tank Police on the Sci-fi channel. I actually didn't realize it was anime. I thank my older brother for getting me into it because he was watching the show when i first saw it.
What attracts me to it is the fact they actually take great and imaginitive story lines and put good characters with better than normal animation to make something that almost seems real. Anime is what I had to expand my imagination because live action shows couldn't provide the imaginitive enviroments you seen in anime. At least back then it didn't.

Evangelion was the first anime I ever watched. After watching it, I realized how intricate and creative anime story lines were compared to watching an American Movie. It was like watching those dreams and really cool phantasy books on the big screen. Don't get me wrong, I like American movies and all but they will never enter the realm of creativeness and uniqueness that anime has dwelled into.
I guess I watch anime for their unique story basis and complex themes. One more fact to consider... Anime's know no boundaries and have no limits, They do whatever, whenever, and however they want. Only in an anime will you see certain things.

"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

The first animes I watched I thought they were cartoons, like Speed Racer and G-force, and the such that were played on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. I never really knew what seperated anime from cartoons until I watched Akira, which is probably the first mature anime I watched all the way through and was completely amazed. There was another one, but only watched a few minutes of it, or at least remember. It was when I was in second or third grade, about 12 years ago. There was an informercial on an anime which I can't remember (I remember a certain scene of it, was all bloody and stuff, and it was about the same time I watched Akira) that used the term anime and I think that's the first I heard the term. But still I thought it was cartoons for adults, since it said had to be 18 to buy it. When I learned the real meaning of anime was the first time I started watching Adult Swim when it first came out.
I'm interested in the stories, theories, ideologies, the settings and all that other stuff they are able to produce that live action wouldn't be able to deliver as good. For instance, I don't think they'd be able to make a good live action GITS movie without a big budget and a buncha CG sequences and the results not having the same effect as the anime. It might in a movie theatre, but then I haven't yet seen an anime in a theatre either, which is something I need to do sometime soon. But yea, something like that.
