Teens & Anime

If the West exports teen angst, in Japan, does this make anime the echo? If it is true, it would seem that anime creators and publishers watch Western teen trends and promote/sell the anime most likely to resonant with the current Japanese teen atmosphere caused by this export.

If anime is the echo, how much of it do you see returning and how much of it is absorbed and lost to entropy/distortion? Of the amount that returns, how much do you see as imprinted with Japanese values and how much with exaggerated Western/USA-centric values?

that is a good question. one better is why has anime grabbed the westeren and is only getting stronger with each new anime that is displayed

because there havnt been any new episodes of Ren and Stimpy for years!

lol. I do miss that show but, back to the point. Western/ USA-centric values, as far as I've seen, values in the US have not been affected by anime very much at all. The only way values have been possibly changed is the view of foreign things and to have a prefrence to watch anime over American animations. I dont notice life in America or anywhere else changing due to anime and manga. What do these people think
is going to happen? Over-exaderated expression? Chibi transformations? Big eyes,Big heads, and hair with all the colors of the rainbow birth defects in babies in the next generation, all because we watch anime? I find that quite amusing

Some people see all anime and manga as a negative influence on today youth. The real problem are people like Bush and Dick Cheney in office. What a role model; a friend doesnt agree with you? Shoot him in the face!

You guys are looking at it too hard. It's obvious from watching any anime that only young teens have the power to do amazing things, such as control giant robots, become highly trained assassins, and become the strongest super saiyan. Once you turn 20 you pretty much have to retire. Thus, anime focuses on teens and not crusty, burnt-out 20 yr olds.

I'm 20, and I've accepted the fact that I will never become the strongest super saiyan assassin with my own space robot.
