Let's face it, it can only be sad.

You are born a guy, fall in love with a girl, and because of a very unlikely event (space ship landing on you, and you get rebuilt at the molecular level as a girl) you can't really have the girl you love as a guy, because you are now a girl. And to make matters worse, you end up in a love triangle with another girl.

Think about it, you still have your original mind, you just happen to no longer be able to be a boy.

You can't just stop loving people that easily though.
;o that would be weird, i'd go lesbo if that happened to me lol

I'm just surprised Eureka Seven isn't on this list. Oh, wait... it's not that sad. Well, never mind. But it's still a good love story.
Almost as hard as fighting a Holy Paladin.

lol exactly, but ive seen eureka seven, and e7 kinda goes under the action category with me, i felt the love story in the anime wasn't as strong as the actually action in the anime, but still one of my favorite series!

Koi Kaze, anyone?

It's 13-episodes short, and while you see the ending from the first episode, you resist it the whole way through. When boy and girl get together in a happy ending, it makes you so very very sad.

Boku no Pico.

It is a majestic story about a boy. He wants to find his subconscious personality. But, many obstacles lay in his wake. He goes through much heartache and pain as he finds his true meaning and life and finds love with many other people. The story of this series may be short, but it equals... nay.... SURPASSES anything Shakespeare has ever produced, and could be considered the greatest form of art that has ever surfaced this beautiful blue planet.
