answer - a hobby 'wierd' people have. They dress up as their favorite anime character and go to a big convention where other 'wierd' people are dressed up...its like a costume party. The down side is seeing a 400lb whale dressed up as Rinoa from FF8 along with a pencil-necked pale nerd sporting Squalls outfit.
Oh the horror!!! I've never been to one, so I dunno what exactly they do there besides walk around looking stupid, but I have seen pictures..
uhhh so very wrong.

In Animerica magazine, Issue #Vol 5 No.5,on the page#71 Is a lady playing Armitage III,and next page over A girl Dressed as ran-chan,and a Devil hunter yohko cosplayer as well. Then you have the Daicon bunny girl. And heres some more evidence that not all people who cosplay look stupid, In Animerica Vol 3 No 5 on page 60,are some damn good looking cosplayers. Put that in ya pipe an smoke it,Kemosabe!!

Most people in cospalys are'nt really that ugly..
Most of them are just normal(wtf is that?)\avarage(huh??) looking people,
who just look really fugly when you compare them to the 'perfect' looking anime characters they're dressed as.
Cospalyers' major 'flaw',in that case, would have to be their inconcievable 'nerditude' (i much prefer the term 'crazy-bastard-assedness' however).
So basically, anime cosplayers are there to make die-hard fanatics of psychodelic sci-fi shows that had the decency to have passed from glory some 30-40 years ago feel somewhat better about themselves.
Of course, I play D&D (and not even for fun ), so im not quite sure.. you know.. what the fuck is my point..
..

Dude....that's like sooo true.Serpico wrote:- cosplay
- ugly people
- ugly/fat people who cosplay cute/thin characters
- hyperactive 12 year olds who say ANIME isn't a CARTOON, but something unique and special since its japanese
- japanese fanatics, who love anything thats remotely japanese, if its got asian letters on it they'll wear it..etc
meh, the list can go on, but it wont...so sue me
I can name like at least half a dozen people exactly like that. What's really sad is that they made an actual "Japanese club" at my school (which of course no one goes to but them). Getting even more sad, one of the active members is one of my teachers!!
Now, I'm a full blood Jap (so I have the full right to criticize all of this) and even I don't get that obsessive over my own culture. It's like "My God! Get lives!!!". That one teacher I mentioned talks about her trip to Japan (yes, singular, not plural) 24/7 in class. My fellow students are like "please, make her stop...." all the time to me, but what the hell can I do? I could perhaps remotely understand the students' behavior, but a grown woman teacher...? What I noticed too is that all of them, teacher included, are all white who want to be Japanese. That, to me is just wrong and completely sad. I mean, it would be perfectly fine if it was a hobby, but this is like a 24/7 obsession that's taken them over.
Then there are of course those that think they are anime fans because they watch and collect Yu-Gi-Oh! stuff. Or of course those that only watch anime for the hentai or the like.
So yes, Serpico, I feel your pain bro. All too well....

EXACTLY!!! I go to college and I have witnessed grown-up otakus interact in their clubs...I always see them at their little booths watching anime, ofcourse when I see cool anime playing on a t.v it attracts my eye, but then I notice all the rejects watching it and I quietly run away hoping no one saw me...Dude....that's like sooo true.

I speak from first hand experience, and my list is 110% true.
And it is strange how some people are so obsessed with the japanese culture and they aren't even japanese.... O_o
