What's the anime magazine to get?

Animerica used to be decent but has really just gone awful the past couple years it seems.

They replaced the 30 something pages a month they were using for Galaxy Express 999 manga so they can use it for other purposes. not a bad thing right? Well..... instead of getting more anime reviews or reports and interviews from people in the industry...... we get toy reviews, model gumdam reviews, video game reviews.

Also they are really really ridicuously behind in reviewing the things that is hitting the states much less in japan. I think a month or two ago they bothered with an article on Fruits Basket. By that time the show was 3/4ths of the way done with their Region 1 release for goodness sake.

As opposed to Newtype, which yes needs work in the layout department, gives us what is out in Japan and actually what is new stateside. They also give articles from those inside the industry such as not too long ago they did one on Gonzo, which was one of the anime studios to really push the digital animation trend. You can find new series listed that you may want to find for yourself as it probably won't be licenced in the states for awhile. Heck that magazine has found me several series I have wanted to see. Some of them are more obvious hits like Hikaru No Go but then others are more of the artsy one like the most recent projects Yoshitoshi ABe has been working on.

Oh and the cool extras like the DVD addition, centerfolds, postcards etc. is just icing on the cake. Only big flaw is it is more expensive but as mentioned it is at least twice the size and with far better content overall and that is what really counts.


I mean...... is it asking that much for Animerica not to review the Trigun box set nearly a year after it is released? Just keep a tad up to date with at least the American releases?
