my problem with Reign is Chung's hideous character designs, even with Aeon Flux I could put up with only so much. The fromt he 4 eps I actually sat through so far, the story seems somewhat interesting...but the whole look to everything doesn't impress me at all.

"Reign" is okay. However, they still make Alexander the Great look like the bad guy as the "Devil King of Destruction". It's because of Alexander the Great that the Middle East ended up somewhat civilized after the fall of Egypt. There's also the whole clothing thing that really bugs me. The last thing I want to watch is some homo-erotic anime with some macho "girly man" like Alexander try to screw up the world. You know, that's what someone has to do. Someone has to make a "Reign" AMV, using Sisqo's "The Thong Song".
Honestly, the only reason I watch Adult Swim anymore, is to help me fall asleep, and as a prelude to "The O'Reilly Factor". I preferred the original Adult Swim, when they ran it on Saturday, with some decent stuff ("Pilot Candidate" had some promise). "Inuyasha" is awesome, but watching the same episodes over and over again, like the Cartoon Networ's DBZ Syndrome, is getting old. "The Big O" (not the tire guys) is going to come back for Adult Swim, but again, that's only 13 episodes long, and just gets repeated.
I started watching anime, because of the Sci-Fi channel's annual anime movie marathon (which they no longer run, and that pisses me off). They had some good stuff on (they actually ran one of the "Tenchi Muyo" movies, "Galaxy Express 999", and "Dominion Tank Police").
Adult Swim really needs to find some new material. Maybe they could borrow some anime from "Tech TV", or try some '60s British supermarionation. It would be kind of cool if Adult Swim ran "Thunderbirds", "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons", or "Stingray" in their original form. When Fox ran "Thunderbirds", they cut down two episodes into one, cut out any politically-incorrect stuff, and redubbed the audio (including the opening sequence). It's almost suffered as much as "Robotech".

Agreed...the story's pretty good, but the visuals are NOT easy on the eyes (I swear to God, I'd be willing to pay Peter Chung extra if he would give his characters pants...or...failing that, at least a skirt-type of thing...)Jebadia wrote:my problem with Reign is Chung's hideous character designs, even with Aeon Flux I could put up with only so much. To D Reaper:
The original name for "Pilot Candidate" was "Candidate for Goddess". Of course, thanks to the slacker ways of the production staff, they left the original title in the opening sequence. I was always confused why Adult Swim referred to it as "Pilot Candidate", when the title was different.
At least with that show, the characters were interesting.
You know what Adult Swim really needs to run? They need to get "Crest of the Stars" on the Sunday-Thursday 1am-2am line-up. Granted, the dubbed version is so stale, because all the characters speak in mono-tone voices, in which only the speed at which they speak changes due to non-existant emotions. However, the story is a definate change from the typical mecha anime (finally, no more giant robots!).

My computer hiccuped, though, b/c that post was supposed to be on a different thread.
I'm open to any suggestions on animes to watch, btw. Maybe if we band together AS will put some of our suggestions on their lineup...
