Erm...that's your opinion and you've a right to it, but this is what rentals are for...TsumiKi wrote:I don't think there's a problem with downloading an anime that's been licensed as long as you consider buying it. I downloaded an ep of Yami no Matsuei, and that is the reason I bought it. There's just some anime out there that looks good until you spend 30 bucks on a DVD, and find that it sucks.

Sure, renting it is good too. I don't know about where you are, but here, nothing that just comes out comes out as a rental. There are only 2 comic book stores near me that rent, and they haven't added any new titles since Sailor Moon came out on VHS. And they don't do special orders for rentals. And as for video stores - forget it. There anime selection is Dragonball Z and really old anime movies. So, at least you know my reasoning behind my opinion.

you must be referring to blockbuster.....
and i understand where you stand. rentals are out for me too.
thank you to certain things available through our wonderful world wide web for people like me that are stuck in a black hole town of south florida. i have "encountered" new anime that i would have never seen before. because of that, retailers are going to get every extra penny i make in the next year in dvd/manga sales. now THAT is a good thing... isnt it????
better go buy stock in discountanimedvd.com... i will go up with all that they are going to take from me

Just to warn you about that site. I just got my DVds back, and they are Taiwanese ripoffs. Which isn't bad. DVD quality, subbed, and usually regionless. The only problem is, these are Taiwanese people subbing it. and while it isn't a bad job - it's far from good. They translated the names in the Gravitation DVDs to their literal kanji meanings. did you know that Sakuma-kun's name means "Lung"? And when there are complex sentences with multiple noun groups, it translates it backwards, just like the kanji is written. But if you can deal with some . . . intersting . . . translations then that is the best site I have found so far. Also, they do sell domestic, dubbed and subbed by Americans.

Condoning the downloading of licensed anime is not supported on this forum, so here's a suggestion: If you feel you must download licensed anime and don't want to get yelled at, KEEP THE FACT TO YOURSELF.
It is a simple solution. And you can avoid the whole whining about not having money or not having a place to rent anime, and what not, when people like myself criticize you for being ignorant of what fansubbing ethics are all about.
