The Escflowne movie is decent, but it's not Escaflowne. It's basically "Record of Lodoss War" with the character names from Vision of Escaflowne.
Imagine the original "Star Wars" movies "reinterpreted" with Warp Drives and Photon Torpedos and Luke Skywalker as the captain of a starship. Is it really Star Wars, or is it now Star Trek?

I think you just can't compare the two. If you watch escaflowne as a stand alone movie, and try to forget about the series, its not half bad. I showed it to my friend who never saw the series and he thought the movie was rad, I showed it to my friend who loved the series, and he despised the movie, but I think that was because he was making too many comparisons between the 26 episode series and a 90 minute or so film. Theres only so much you could do in that time frame. You cant expect the director and writers to try and accomplish all that the series did in a time period that short.
I think I read somewhere that the director made the movie darker just to attract a bigger male audiance since the fanbase of the series was predominatly female. He wanted to even out the ratio of guy and girl fans or something. I could be totally wrong though
But if I'm right, thats pretty lame.

Re: Escaflowne: The Movie
Shut up, fool, Amano is cool. He is like the earthling version of Alan. Anyways, why the hell did you have to say that. I didn't want to know that. Put a spoiler up next time, or I will beat you down.SSJVegita0609 wrote:Yes I have seen them both. I just watched the series fully through for the second time. What I meant was, as opposed to being either a side story or sequal, as most anime movies based on series are, it was a retelling under different circumstances. For example, Escaflowne is now Atlantis, etc. etc. I thought the movie was good, and I think your expectations were too high. Did you think they'd be able to fit all aspects of the series 26 episode plot into 96 min? I thought they did a fine job with what they had, and especially enjoyed the action sequences. They got rid of all the stuff in the series that I disliked, such as intensified luck, Hitomi falling in love with Alan, and THANK GOD THEY KILLED AMANO! Anyways, I like the movie and the series about the same, I just like them both in different ways.UncleMilo wrote:SSJVegita0609 wrote:As eveyone who's seen it knows, the escaflowne movie is a retelling of the series' plot under much darker circumstances.
Really? I didn't see much connection at all between the plot of the TV series and the plot of the movie.
I've seen both... and I feel they were two very different stories.
Did you see both?

BTW, after watching the series twice a thought occured to me. Is Dorncurk (dunno how to spell it) supposed to be Isaac Newton? If you listen to the teacher talking in Hitomi's class he's talking about Newton's intrests in alchemy, and the man's name is Isaac. Plus in the flashbacks about his life on Earth he does look quite renisance-esque.

If only they would pick up more titles, I wouldn't have to go to On Cue and pay 10 to 15 dollars more for the same thing.
