It was definately a lot better than the oldstyle gundam series with the older animation. Gundam wing actually looks modern, not like the others at all.

...again, as pointed out earlier, the oldstyle series was made in 1979, logic dictates by comparison to Wing it's not going to look modern, that's just how that works. Remember, Wing is one part in a long chain of shows, they've come along way, as a result, Wing will have more updated animation than a lot of them

For that matter, only 4 Gundam shows have come out post Wing, 08th MS Team, Gundam X, Turn A Gundam, and Gundam SEED...and in terms of animation quality, they all outclass it...

Then again, I'm also of the belief you shouldn't judge a show purely on the animation quality, but that's just me...

I'm beginning to think I was lucky in having seen Gundam Wing before the other sagas. I wasn't biased against it - I got to judge it all by itself as a solitary anime (which it is since the timeline of the sagas do not necessarily flow like arcs in a single anime). I watched it, and took the plot, characters, animation, action, drama - all on face value without any favoritism. And I found it to be a very busy, but good anime, with lots of drama and character growth as well as good animation and distinct character designs (compared to some other anime that will remain nameless...).

Of course, I had no problem with the 'pretty boy' animation - I'm a fan of lovely animation. I dislike watching things like Ninku where it looks like a 12 yrold sketched the main characters - a 12 yrold American boy. GW came out later, so the animation *should* be good. I wouldn't consider Vampire Hunter D a 'pretty-boy' anime done to attract fans who didn't like the sketchier original - but the animation of that movie is a thousand times better than the original movie. Why? Not just as a market gimic, but because animation standards *are* higher. The higher the standards, the higher a new anime's standards should be. Like someone else noted - Gundam Seed has lovely animation. Does that animation take away from the plot? No, it just makes it easier on the eyes.

I liked Gundam Wing when I watched it dubbed, and I like it much more now that I've seen it in Japanese (suddenly Relena is downright likable - go figure). I've seen some of the older sagas - but like the fans who are biased against GW, I'm biased against *those* sagas - they don't stand up to the comparison. It's just a matter of me not wanting to go back and watch older versions. If I'd seen VHD Bloodlust before the original movie, I'd never have bought the original - the animation and characterization is too 'oldschool' for a passing fan like myself. I enjoy it because I saw it first - it was the set for that anime, and any improvement is an afternote. That's probably why I found VHD Bloodlust to have a lot of needless fanservice compared to the original (amazing considering the original had nudity, but Bloodlust is all glimmer and flashing characters who don't matter to the plot).

I started writing fanfiction for GW - it was my first fandom. But I've moved away since then, passing fancies and all. It's still one of my favorite anime, but only because watching it in Japanese (after being limited to the dub) was a refreshing charge that reminded me why I like the anime - the characters.

I've seen maybe one or two episodes of any Gundam series. All I recall is a guy inside the Gundam yelling "SHINING FINGER ATTACK".

I also recall falling on the ground laughing a moment later.

Anyone writing fics?

Does anyone have a problem particular with Gundam-Wing and why you don't like it. The reason I ask about Gundam-Wing is because there are many that hates it.

1) I have been a Gundam fan for a long time now. Especially fond of Gundam 0080 and Gundam 0083. Gundam Seed seems particularly good for one of the "alternate continuity titles"

2) I don't write Gundam fanfics.

3) I don't have a huge problem with Gundam Wing... I'm just not a fan.

I'm starting to get sick of the people who hate an older series, just because the animation is outdated. The reason I watched the original Gundam was because of its plot, it's pretty much the only reason whether or not I like a series. What I hated the most were those three little kids, you could tell that the sponsers thought up of that one.

I've actually seen the original SD Gundam from the 80's in raw Japanese form. Really goofy and much better that the current version.

Have you even seen any of the other Gundam series besides *gag* Wing? You certainly sound like you haven't. Though perhaps you don't like the rest of Gundam because it has no yaoi for you to drool over (ok, a pot shot, but what do you call the above quote?)

I was a fan of Wing when it first got to the States, but after seeing most of the other series (still missing Stardust Memory, F-91, and the newer titles), my opinion on Wing has changed drastically. It goes against the themes that I so admire about the Gundam series in general: war is about people. Wing de-humanized war far too much (Treize was the only bright-spot; his respect for the soldiers reflected the theme of the original Gundam).

If I had to choose a favorite out what I've seen, it would be a toss-up between the original MSG, CCA, and 0080: WitP.

Another resident of Stupid, I see. While some of the Gundam titles are good and some are poor, to blast all the Gundam titles is pretty sweeping and given the nature of your writing... well... I can see that the depth of your character would scarcly get one's feet wet.

Oh well.

I liked Gundam Wing at first, but it gets old real quick seeing legions of mobile suits destroyed and the gundam not even getting scratched after a direct hit from a missile.

um... my favorite gundam series is... gundam seed... though it has 50 episodes... it is a cool anime... and more indepth about the gundams abilities... but the think i like most is... that there are giant robots fighting... hehe... i'm soo childish somtimes... but what ever...
