dammit, can't suggest Puppet Master Sakon/Ayatsuri Sakon. Good stuff (detective/horror), but Sakon is quite bishie. That's the only fail point, though.
Big Big Truck wrote:- "Must save the world from evil overlord!"
- "See, it's funny because she punched him because he accidentally saw her boobies!"
- "Wait, shit, uhh, let's write this plot hole away with some bad science!"
May want to walk carefully around RahXephon, then; someone who's seen it all and actually liked it may have a different opinion.
Big Big Truck wrote:- "This guy is a pasty nerd with no personality, and yet, inexplicably, all seven of us hot ladies want him so bad!"
- "I'm secretly in love with you but I won't say it because then the show would end--- urrr, I mean, because I'm stubborn, and that's HILARIOUS!"

With two anime rental places open nearby, I'm contemplating renting RahXephon, and finally finishing watching Boogiepop Phantom.
Yes indeed on Boogiepop; you may also be interested in Patlabor, which is getting reissued on DVD currently. WXIII may not be the best place to start, but it is still in the minds of many people the best character-development series out there. Scrapped Princess sorta fails on the evil-overlord and bad-science parts, but the rest of the show is so good that everyone who's seen it is wondering why in the hell it isn't licensed yet.

That's more or less all I can do, for now.

Suggestions very much appreciated. :)
Definetely check out RahXephon. I've seen all the episodes on fansubs, and the ending just fits perfectely.

EK the bad news is: As a whole anime over the past year or so has been well, terrible. Of late, all I could think of that might fit your requirements are:

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu (the whole under 18 thing, might cause some anger) It's more or less like the better filler episodes of the original series. It's all fun but may get annoying. (ie Sagara's weapon humour)

ROD the TV It starts out rather well. Then goes onto what I like to call the "This show is about people with unnatural powers and they hardly ever use them" Still worth having a look.

I'm kinda low on sleep, so sorry if I'm not too helpful.[/b]
I must interject with a disagreement. Full Metal Alchemist, Chrono Crusade, Peacemaker Kurogane, Kousetsu Hyaku Monogatari, Gilgamesh, and Gunslinger Girl are all excellent shows that fall well within his requirements.

My eyes were quick to notice Full Metal Alchemist and Gunslinger Girl in your list. A big meh to you, sir. That and something else about your post just stood out as being odd.

S'right, they both are, because they are both good shows. And what exactly is odd about that? I'm not the only one to like them, they (especially FMA) are pretty popular.
