Hiei has some pretty awsome moves, but Kurama is very intelligent and clever (He is a fox Youko).
He'd definitely have an advantage over him in his true form. I think Kurama would take Hiei down.
(Now if only someone would come up with the Hamtaro Vs. Baldur's Gate's Boo lol))

I happen to disagree. It is true hiei wanted kurama as a parner so he wouldnt have to face him himself. But he was referring to how cutthroat and precice he is. On terms of skill, they are equally matched, one using stragity, the other using speed and power. On a one on one, I believe Hiei would win on account of his unbelieveable speed. Especially since kurama himself said that he could only see flashes of light when hiei would go at his higher levels of speed. However, this may be different aas yoko, there still is a massive difference in speed.
also, there is the factor of Hiei, he is a fire advocate, which is a natural opposing element to organic substances. If hiei were to stick to using even the mortal flame, most of kuramas attacks would be rendered useless. and there's no telling what Hiei could do if he dropped his artistic killing and unleashed the sword of the darkness flame.

Kurama never uses a plant in the anime that resists fire, but I think if he can call a thinking, feeling plant that drips acid like it's saliva - he could call something that would resist flame.
As for speed - Youko Kurama outruns Hiei during the Sensui arc. Now, that's not to say Hiei was running at his fastest, but as furious as they both were, and overzealous to get revenge, I can't see Hiei just jogging along - they both left Kuwa in the dust, but Kurama caught up with Hiei and passed him in a matter of seconds (immediately after he shifted). We also know that Youko Kurama has a much higher youki and can see things he can't in his human form - I'm fairly sure he can follow Hiei's movements as a youko. Heck, even in his human form by the end of the series, Kurama had no trouble following Hiei's match with Mukuro (he was upper A/lower S by then - the same as Hiei).
Still, I don't like thinking of Kurama as being that fast, so I'd rather believe Hiei could take him in a speed match. I just had to mention that the one time they *do* run together, Kurama leaves Hiei pretty far behind. I'm hoping it was just a fluke. Then again, Kurama can fly - so what good is speed if your opponent is in the air?
Yeah, way too many variations of 'plants' at Kurama's disposal. Hiei would have to kill him in an instant before he has a chance to shift to youko (and it only takes a few seconds for him to shift toward the end of the series, so Hiei would have to attack immediately).

Heh, I just remembered another point - I was wrong when I said Kurama never used a fire resistant plant. ^_^;;
During the Sensui battle (Kurama, Hiei, and Kuwa vs Sensui) - Hiei uses his dragon on himself, and is using his ensatsu ken (black flame sword) - but Kurama's whip not only fails to be burned, it's strong enough to wrap around the blade and drag Hiei. Proof of fire resistant rose whip? ;p
[Note - Kurama doesn't use his whip on Hiei, Sensui took it and used it on Hiei - but the whip itself determines whether or not it catches fire, not the person holding it. So that scene should be enough to show that Kurama *does* have fire resistant plants, since that was the same whip (attack) he'd been using throughout the anime.]
