Hmmm I tend to like bishounen sure, but I wouldn't say it's necessarily because they're pretty. I guess that has something to do with it, after all, I always swoon over Tasuki/Kyou and others. Though they don't necessarily fit the 'definition'.
Bishounen: Literally means "pretty boy," as in an attractive member of the male gender. Also spelled "bishonen," and sometimes shortened to "bish" and "bishie/bishy." It is a Japanese word, adopted by female anime fans in the rest of the world to denote any male anime, manga, or video game character they happen to find good looking. Strictly speaking, "bishounen" should only refer to boys under age 20, since a "pretty man" would be "biseinen." However, most people prefer to use bishounen for men and boys of all ages, as it is so widely used.
Based on that ^ most of the characters whom I love and refer to as bishonen fits, however if you look at the more stylistic/physical elements (see below) most don't fit at all.
Opinions on which males are bishounen and which are not vary according to personal tastes. The stereotypical bishounen generally has long hair, a slender, graceful figure, and lacks facial hair. Bishounen tend to appear androgynous or feminine. They are also likely to have certain personality traits, like sensitivity, secretiveness, moodiness, refinement, and a dark, tormented past.
If I was to refer to bishounen based on that description, it would be more appropriate to consider Nuriko/Yuki. While I place Nuriko as my third fave from Fushigi Yugi I wouldn't say I like him from the 'bishonen' aspect. I like his personality. (wow that sounded cliche ) That's true for most of the characters I like, most of them tend to be a mixture of spontaneity, angst and 'goofyness' as I term it.
I prefer the personality traits that most seem to have, besides if a character is overly effiminate it turns me off. (I don't mind them pretty but if its 'over the top' I tend not to like them as much. Take Millefeuille from Sorcerer Hunters (the series) as an example, he's a bishonen, but I haven't printed pictures of him off to stick around my room and oggle on occasion.)
Personality is what draws me to a character. If they happen to look good i it's just an added bonus

I almost wish I hadn't had my hair cut. Bah, it's still kinda long. >_>Arigatomyna wrote:A real life guy with long hair is often considered sexy, so there's no reason to automatically equate that feature with femininity - but people do it anyway.

As far as the long hair goes, I think manga/anime characters are the only ones that can pull off longer hair (not in all cases, but most). Real life speaking, I usually don't like guys with long hair *blah.* They remind me of pretty boys or shaggy/dirty. Besides, Guys that usually spend a lot of time on their hair or worry about it all the time usually tells you something about them. Guys generally don't spend time on themselves and don't care what they look like down to the last lil detail. If they do, it usually says something about them like they are players or think they are the best thing that happens to girls; major ego issues (again, not all the time, but most of the time)!
I do think some of the more "girly" looking boys in manga/anime are attractive. If too girly than I am way turned off! That's probably because I tend to go for guys that are more tall and lanky in real life. I usually get turned off by guys that are way buff. I do not go for them because they seem overly sensitive or any of that. I like the "bad boys" and guys that have nothing to prove as far as their "man hood" goes and will let a girl be who she is even if she doesn't have to depend on him.
This is just my, another girls, opinion on this matter! ^_~

I remember when my friends wanted to hook me up with a guy with long hair. I'd always liked guys with long hair. Then when I met the guy, I discovered that he was a total greaseball. Total turnoff.

So many guys grow their hair and think its manly never to wash it (or in some cases wash it EVERY day...sometimes even multiple times >_<) and never brush it or blow dry it.ryuu_hime13 wrote:I remember when my friends wanted to hook me up with a guy with long hair.
