I really didn't like Excel Saga, I found that it just got REALLY tiresome by about the end of the first episode and by the third I was like, "why am I still watching this crap"? And after about the 7th or 8th episode I just stopped watching it altogether. It's the kind of series that unless you're just grossly immature or REALLY fucking drunk, you're probably not going to like it. *shrugs* That's my opinion anyway.

Excel Saga definately has it's moments. I'd say honestly that NOT watching the shows, and having it play in the background tends to be better than watching it. If you look over and see some off the way, what the hell just happened moment you'll get more out of it.
Great for parties, and stuff where you just have something playing up on the wall, not so great to sit down with and watch in large chunks of time.
You can think of it like watching a Jerry Lewis marathon. How many times can you watch him do that thing with the glass and still find it amusing? Well, you can watch Excel get blown up about the same number of times and still find it amusing too. The time difference will start to feel like a marathon if you watch too many episodes of Excel at one time too.
If you want money well spent on something in the same genre, you might look at Abenobashi. I found it a lot more lighthearted and fun to watch.
If you follow the "less is more sometimes" philosophy, then FLCL is a good alternative too.

Especially if you like a good story and some good drama mixed in with your zany comedy.madbunny wrote:If you follow the "less is more sometimes" philosophy, then FLCL is a good alternative too.
I think Excel Saga makes me laugh more than FLCL, but I'd also have to say I like FLCL better.

Excel Saga is a lot like Bottle Fairy, it has some good moments, but it's a pain to have to sit through waiting for them...like in episode 7 of Bottle Fairy where Chiriri is going on about how she wants to wear the flower pot, that was pretty damn hysterical, but OMG what a tedious wait to get to that ONE good part.

You couldn't even begin to list the anime it makes fun of but it’s more of parodying genres actually.
Romantic, mecha, supernatural, western comics vs. manga, comedy and more are parodied by episode.
Heck, the creators make fun of themselves all along.
It's a total of 26 episodes, well, 25 episodes and the "infamous" OVA.
I have Excel Saga and its great...for me. It’s an acquired taste so not for everyone.
Actually just watched it a week ago and its totally reviewable.
So in the end:
Excel Saga= Anime on Drugs (no I'm not kidding)
Excel Saga is one of my favorite anime, just great to watch whenever, especially if you're bored.

Dude, Excel Saga parodies life, anime and itself in general.I hate asking such a crappy question, but would anyone recommend Excel Saga? If my sources are correct, it is a comedy, and it parodies other popular animes. In order to answer my question, besides a simple yes, could anyone list the anime it parodies and/or other anime that if someone liked that particular anime they would like Excel Saga (god I worded that like shit)?

It really all depends on your type of humor. In my opinion, it's better to watch it a little at a time. Since it's strictly comedy, it's a bit of a pain to watch 4 episodes (let alone 5) straight. It doesn't have much of a plot so it's easy to lose interest in it (ADD). It's best taken in small doses to actually apreciate the comedy.
I suppose I would reccomend it. Just don't think about watching the series all at once.
