Why some people dislike Anime?

I hate to say it, but to be honest, most of my friends that aren't into anime were turned off largely by the fans. There are just some fans who, quite frankly, come on a little strong about the whole issue. I've seen it happen that one or two particularly enthusiastic fans - specifically, a guy who had just gotten into it and rarely talked about much else, and a girl who is the very embodiment of hyperactive preteen fangirlism - scare off a few people who may have been willing to give anime a shot. It's very intimidating to be faced with that kind of behavior, and honestly, it's rather off-putting. A little tact and moderation goes a long way. Not that it's the sole reason people may not like anime (as was said earlier, everyone has different tastes in entertainment), but if you ask around as to why those who dislike it feel that way, it's quite a popular answer. Food for thought, anyhow.

Another thing is, I asked someone about it, and they said they just prefer live action to animation in general.
And about the behavior thing, I try to tone down my behavior around non-fans. I talk about other things, and though I'm frequently tempted to make anologies about some anime, I either don't, or I just say, "I was watching this show..." and of course they don't know what show it is, but they probably assume it's just a movie they haven't seen or something.
Honestly, some anime fans are scared or revolted by the more obsessive or extreme fans. I've talked to them.
And yes, some people are distrustful of anything foreign.

Re: Why some people dislike Anime?
Let's see, freedom of choice? The ability to decide that someone likes something and prefers it over another? I got a great idea, Why don't you ask something worth answering?Jippo-san wrote:I was wondering why some people don't like Anime-related stuff or Manga.

The main reason
They all think it is pokemon. (anime here is aimed at kids so they think the same with all anime)
Reason 2
Its hentai, and they would rather see the real thing and/or find it grose
Reason 3
They don't like it because it is anime. They would rather see stuff with real people.
These are proabably the most common reasons.

I'm seeing a lot of good points, looks like you all beat me to it.
Naturally, these are the exact same people who have never seen an episode of Family Guy or Duckman.Solaria735 wrote:Because it's a cartoon, and unfortunately in America, people think cartoons are meant for children.
I might get some people upset by saying this, but that's the reason I hate being a fan sometimes, because I get lumped into the catagory of the obsessed fan. Actually, I kind of used to be like that, now I'm a little more mature and I don't talk about it quite as much as I use to.IcyCloud wrote:There are just some fans who, quite frankly, come on a little strong about the whole issue. I felt that way when I first discovered anime, but I found I couldn't stop watching it. Some people just don't want to broaden their horizons at all.bubblehead wrote:And yes, some people are distrustful of anything foreign.
Probably too busy to be here right now.
