i recently purchased excel saga aswell, i'd have to say its funny and entertaining, but its not an anime that you will go out of your way to watch. what i mean is, its not like there's some crazy compelling story, or there's a twist in the plot at the end and you can't wait to see the next episode, its more like, "hey if i got the time i'll give it a watch" its more for casual viewing and it will probly take me a while to finish this as i won't be watching it on a daily basis, but it is entertaining regardless. its also very insane, i'd put it up there with FLCL as far as randomness goes, things happen and you will just be like "wtf?"

I laughed pretty hard on ep 4 when they did the dating game sim and the options were always like
a)Stalk her
b)kill her
c)put it in ^_^

Space Butler, Pedro, those little martians that turn into angry men when you hit them and the Afro guy named Nabeshin who looks like Spike from Bebop also cracked me up

Otherwise known as the director.
And yes, that is what he prefers to go by (although his name is Watanabe Shinichi) and he does have the afro thing going on, and the wardrobe... (although IMO the character design took a slight liberty or two)

It's also one of those series' that you just have to see...

Make no mistake the manga is hilarious, but the slap-stick comedy of the anime is just out of this world.

Long enough to put together this combined screencap:

(Okay, so it's not the audience of Hyatts, but close enough. :P)

Few key differences that would come to mind... No Nabeshin. His style of direction is what caused the presence of himself in the television serial. The cosplay parody of the theme song singers, Kobayashi Yumiko and Takahashi Mikako, would be absent in the manga as well I gather.

Can't confirm this one, perhaps someone else can... Rikdo didn't draw himself in the manga at all...? If so, this is arguably the biggest difference, as he announces the theme before every episode begins (and trivia: he doesn't voice himself, ironically).

Pedro's also not in the manga. I've read that That Man is, but he's only got a bit part (hence why he never got a name).

I also gathered that in the manga Ropponmatsu I and Ropponmatsu II have a kind of one-soul, two-bodies-and-personalities type thing going on, and only one of them is supposed to be alive at any given time... which leads to confusion on Ropponmatsu II's part when
Spoiler wrote:Iwata dies except for his brain and Dr. Shioji manages to transfer his brain to Ropponmatsu I's body to preserve his life, and Ropponmatsu II points out that the two of them shouldn't be able to coexist before the situation is fully explained. Of course, Iwata being Iwata, he quite enjoys his new body...
Also, Sumiyoshi has a thick accent... Scottish, methinks? And Ropponmatsu II somehow manages to be even MORE adorably and annoyingly cute.
