For some which haven't been mentioned:

Berserk
Now and Then, Here and There
and some of the titles by Yoshiyuki Tomino (back in his heyday, this guy was putting Anno to shame in the 'grim' department)

Well, if you like Evangelion you may like RahXephon.

or you may think it's a complete and total rip off.

Texhnolyze is a good one (in my opinion). Many people don't like it though :? . Other than the fact that it's a bit on the raw side and a bit depressing at times, I can't think any other reasons why some one wouldn't like.

One anime is enough:

PO-KE-MON!

:? Use the bloody search engine...
Can't even count how many threads I've answered with the same damn topic.
Go to animenewsnetwork.com, they have all the information you may need.
Yes, Pokemon was a joke.

Onegai Teacher and (if no ones said this) Love Hina.
I can claim the title as being the first person on a-m-v.org to submit an AMV with the artist KJ-52 on it. Yay. Hahaha.
Where my jello? I need it to go with my Cola, Rice, Puddin, Steak, macoroni, apple, peanut butter, plastic, baking soda, and cheese sandwhich!

I'm now kicking myself for having skipped this one earlier:

Hokuto no Ken (aka Fist of the North Star)
Nothing says 'quality viewing' like old-school head-exploding mayhem.

(That joke aside, still a morbidly fun show)

If you are a big fan of Evangelion, I would recommend "Nadia - Secret of the Blue Water". It is almost the exact same production team that put together Evangelion. You will notice many of the same themes and styles between the two.

The following I would absolutely recommend to anyone starting out:

Cowboy Bebop
Escaflowne
FLCL (More Gainax Goodness - makers of Eva and Nadia)
Azumanga Diaoh
Full Metal Panic
Interstella 5555 (The Daft Punk Movie)
:D
If it can't be expressed in numbers or figures, it is an opinion - Robert Heinlein
Like anime? Cosplay? Crossovers? AMVs? You need to go to....
