Only one that really sticks out is Shin Getter 2004. I've always been a sucker for the somewhat corny giant robot genre, but this one is actually well done as a serious series.

It's definitely the darkest super robot show I've seen as they've made all 3 getter pilots nutcases this time.

Haha, I'm so behind the times. I haven't seen any of those series except for the ones bobbarker listed. Most of the rest, I haven't even heard of.

I guess it's because I'm not into fansubs very much. I've been watching a lot of anime lately, but I generally wait around for the DVD release, which means the series is practically old news by then :P
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

You said it. I don't recognize any of these - except bobarker's list and a couple others that get mentioned on the forum. I never download anime, so I guess that keeps me off the cutting edge.

Topic: I don't watch much anime these days, but I did manage to find time for Tokyo Godfathers. That was released in 2004, wasn't it? :? It's not a series, so I guess that breaks angelx03's rules. Still a must-see, though, as well as a good, if offbeat, Christmas movie to watch over the holidays.

I usually go to Jasconius' New Anime page once a month to see what's new out. He typically writes his impressions based on watching the first episode of a series and he has his own tastes, but they generally give a pretty good idea what the shows are about.

Only caught the first two eps of this...how exactly did Benkei turn out nuts? (Struck me as pretty normal in the trailers, but hey)

That said, this was one of the only ones I caught this year...a bit of a new interpretation on the classic (esp. in Hayato's case) but still good.

I want to add one more good anime in 2004.

Re: Cutie Honey

Let's put it this way. If GAINAX is involved AND Hideaki Anno is directing this, you KNOW this OVA series will unbeliveably screw your brain with this remake of Go Nagai's Cutie Honey. It's very flashy, and has a very 60s retro feel to it; it reminded me of an Austin Powers movie. The action sequences were absolutely gorgeous and almost crazy. Oh yeah, THIS series practically has a new level of fanservice where we fanboys don't have to feel sorry for our pervertedness. In other words, it's fanservice done "right." [/i]

Benkei, after the 3rd episode, kind of turned against the team. He went kind of nuts because he had to deal with the other two (Musashi in particular is very different from early incarnations. He's a monk who often fails in his teachings)

Actually, this version is supposed to be the most faithful to the original manga. The show was seriously toned down for kids.

5 episodes came out before the fansubbers stopped. Pioneer's lisenced it (and got the rights to Getter Armegeddon from ADV) so we should start seeing it early next year.

All right! Even though I don't considered these as the absolute worst, these were pretty disappointing to me.

Konomini

Yes, as Kalium said before (I think), there were SO many elements that could have been covered, but the creators obviously didn't bother with them. Heck, I don't think an absolute solid plot ever existed unless you considered the last few episodes the plot so all we got rushed and poorly-made ending. Props on the animation looking good though.

Kannaduki no Miko

This would have been a really decent shoujo-ai series if it wasn't marred by two things, the lame-looking mechas and those annoying enemy flunkies. Other then that, the character development between Chikane and Himeko is pretty standard stuff. For example, Himeko is a bit ditzy and clumsy at first, and then later on becomes stronger, and Chikane....well she starts out pretty perfect until...well if I tell you, it'll spoil the series.

Good
Midori No Hibi - when i first heard about it i didn't want to even see it then I finally decided to watch it and i was glad that i did. It turned out to be one of the most charming series that I have seen in a long time. It was really funny and actually managed to have a good romance considering the completely odd plot.

Bad (more disappointing then bad i guess)
Samurai Champloo - after hearing so much about this series and all the hype and praise it got b/c it's suppose to be one of the best animes going i was let down. It was ok, but nothing special like it was made out to be.
See you space cowboy...
Miroku is a king among amine characters
Aliens, are you a peaceful race.
While hell yes, we are barbequing aren't we not.
