Actually, the card game was not originally intended to be the focus. Each chapter was supposed to feature a different type of game, but the card game got a large fan response.
Also, the game wasn't created for a while after the show had been on in Japan.

And to answer your question...(I guess..)

The concept of one character having two personalities, but not changing much physically was interesting, but no, I do not like Yu-Gi-Oh. I don't hate it either, I'm really indifferent.
If toast always lands butter-side down, and cats always land on their feet, what'd happen if you strapped toast to the back of a cat and dropped the unholy fusion?

Well, I just went to a particular fansub site that doesn't host anything that's been licensed, and within the first three or four entries, it said this: 01-13 . 19:32 Yu-Gi-Oh! TV (1st series) 1 #******** 217.8 Mb. 101 491 Details Show all torrents for Yu-Gi-Oh! TV (1st series)

(*s to block name of subbing group, because it's not condoned here). I was kinda shocked. I guess 4kids doesn't have the first series.. Which I actually heard was kind of good. I don't know, I probably won't get it. I more or less hate Yu Gi Oh and almost all of it's fans.
