Eh, I live just an hour away from the 'states, and I think I still exist in a more general [North] American culture anyways.

Although it may well be that I'm just a grumpy Canuck who posesses an unfortunate combination of a curious glimpse into Asia and a strong nostalgic feeling for Europe, both of which perhaps misleading.

Eh, but like I said, so long as we can choose our own form of cartoon torture, I'm fine
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Trust me, move to alabama and you will learn, North America is not one culture.
(I've been all across N. America, so far Winnepeg wins  )

And yes, FMA is awesome...

Oh, those generalizations will be the end of me

Neither, in fairness, are Europe and Asia.

Hell, even Anime can't really be lumped together as easily as some might like ...

yeha, I'm kinda like that. Despite my love for anime, thiers just nothing like siting down for an hour or 3 and watching saturday morning cartoons. Oh and I enjoyed Kiki's delivery service more than Princess Mononuke for some wierd reason. Thing its got something to do with almost all the anime I watch being too serios/adult, and I'm kinda geting sick of it.

I lived in Europe (Belgium/Holland/France? I HATE FU*%ING HATE France!) But most of them are big fans of American Culture especially music and video games. Also almost everyone in Europe except France can speak, and swear in English. They do appreciate it unlike what their socialist government broadcast.

I Love American culture but i do appreciate other cultures as well, except the French  !

Did i scare u guys off?
If so I apologize, I have a long, bad history with France...
Let's just leave it at that.
Back to the topic...
The work required to create an anime is alot more than doing a live action show, do you or anybody you know appreciate anime simply for that reason.

but at least you can respect them.

i dont respect people who may make something nice but put no work. That is why i hate britney spears cuz she doesnt write the music, lyrics, steps, or play an instrument. She is a puppet and she is famous becuz of that.

ignorance and egocentrism

Post by aesling » Thu Feb 17, 2005 12:24 am

I think a lot of the problems with anime's reception in the States has to do with two things. First of all, I think a lot of people get a bad impression of anime without really learning anything about it. They think it is just for children or geeks. The second thing is kind of an extension of the first. Because many people are ignorant about anime, they don't realize how diverse it is. They judge the whole genre by one anime that was either really crappy or that they just didn't like.

I also think that America right now is really caught up in how influencial it is. A lot of Americans seem to think that the world revolves around them, so it is difficult for things from other cultures to gain a whole lot of acceptance there. Many things about American culture drive me nuts, but I won't get into that rant right now.

FMA ROCKS!
