Check out the Movies on DVD Sometime. The commentary by the people who translated Eva to English is very enlightening. Not only is the show's creator quite mad, but the majority of the people who worked on bringing it to America "At times wanted to open a vein or walk in front of a bus" According to one producer.

This is a great series, but pace yourself. The violence impressive even by Anime standards. The side switching and political backstabbing would stagger Machiavelli. Plus there are scenes that may seem innocent but later or you'll realize just how twisted this story is. (I.E. refrences to incest that put the Luke/Leia kiss to shame. The show show will entertain, it will also mentally rape you.

This was the first anime I've seen, and oh my god it drove me insane! It's also my faulty for watching it with a temp of 103 and very light headed. I borrowed it from a friend again and this time it gave me another view on life, as well as depression for a few days.

There are some kickass AMVs to Eva, like nailz's Dead Boy's Poem AMV,

End of Eva was all over the place. Psychological, emotional, actionpacked.

No kidding. The first two I saw were the movies, and End of Evangelion's climatic scene is one very mind-blowing experience the first time you go through it.

It's like being on a roller coaster -- they draw you in then take you for a ride.

because fans in Japan complained about how the TV series originally ended, Anno and crew just decided to give them what they thought the fans wanted
Actually, that's not true. End of Evangelion was made because it was how the show's creator originally wanted to end the series, but couldn't because of time and money constraints.

Also, there are NO references to incest. That's bullshit.
