Gatsthedarksword wrote:ever heard of the dragonlance series? that would make a bitchin' anime. but mainly the war of the lance, the one where they have tanis and flint, that trilogy of books kicked everything else i've ever read, and i have read some wheel of time books, but really any dragonlace book like:

vinas solamnus-excelent would be beutiful
legend of huma-good hero story
kaz the minotaur- good story for sarcastic people
reavers of the blood sea- great story for everybody, sailing, fighting, magic, gods, this has everything
Hell yhea! DL is awesome! But if they did an anime to the War of the Lance triology, they would definatly have to follow it up with The Second Generation and the new Age of Mortals books (ex. Dragons of a Fallen Sun, Dragons of the Lost Stars, ect.)

I think that an Anime series would be probably the best place to see something like Stephen Donaldson's the Thomas Covenant series. Wow, its been a long time since I've read those.

As the turncoat from the Dragonlance forums, I'm surprised to say I do NOT want to see dragonlance done as an anime. I used to love the idea of seing it done as a movie, and done a lot of thinking about it. And the more I think about it the less I like the idea.

Creating an anime from a manga or from scratch is one thing, because you either have drawings of the characters to go on or you're making them for the first time. Creating something from a novel involves taking characters that people already have images of and making one universal image to fit.

You also have the matter of who would make it. I have not yet seen Lodoss Wars, but from the music vids I've seen it seems to be the closest thing out there. I think my expectations would be too high for a Dragonlance anime.

Another series I would love to see done somehow is Pern, but I have the same misgivings on it as DL. If done as a movie, it could be all right. I'm having visions of Nausicaa here. But I really don't like the idea of fantasy drawn in typical anime fashion. If done very realisticly, such as Ghibli, could work, but it depends on the art.

Now on the other hand. Sci-fi. This stuff makes good anime. Ender's Game would go well, Freedom's Landing possibly, Shadowrun, etc. All tuff than can be done well.

Oh, and ZeWrestler, if your still around and interested in a 1984 type anime, check the 3rd ep of memories, titled "Cannon Fodder."
The sword, it thirsts to drink of man,
The sword at last must win,
Today is gone, and yesterday,
Must echo in the wind.
