There is a lot of filler in the first half, but like you said a lot of it ties into the main plot in at least small ways. Then again, episode 37 is the biggest filler episode the show has. It has NOTHING to do with the main plot and is basically a joke episode.

OMG, everyone I know watches Full Metal Alchemist!!! That watches anime, I mean... Actually, at first I hated FMA because I thought they were taking away InuYasha from adultswim for FMA... but then my friend said they weren't so I was all "whatever..." The commerical for it looked pretty dumb... But come Saturday I had nothing to do and was looking up something to watch on TV... The next show to come on happened to be FMA so I watched the first episode with low expectiations... It just comes to show that you can't judge a book by it's cover! Or a TV show... Um... whatever... But yes, it's totally awesome! If anyone hasn't watched it yet... They should!!!!!
Spoiler wrote:And poor Hugh... Let's kill of a character, show an epsiode, and then threaten to cancel the show off adult swim only the start the series over!!! Hello, when are Ed and Al gonna find out about Hugh??? I actually cried when he died which is really pathetic but I watched it with my friend, who cried.... and then the little girl kept saying, "Why are they burying Daddy, Mommy? He said he had lots of work to do... Why are they burying him?!" and then the water works sorta came... I found his death sorta pointless so I'm wondering why the writers decided to kill him off. I mean, they did it for reason, right?!

HECK, it's a great anime. One of my favourites too. The first manga is out here in Canada, but I'm not sure about the US.

FMA is an awsome show. Actually it didn't look that interesting in the commercial they had on. But I watched it and it's the best show ever. It's depressing though...

P.S. I'm new here also!
Don't read the manga.full Metal Alchemist is one of the few very few animes where the series is so much better than the manga.Full Metal Alchemist manga sucks. The series has and does so much more I couldn't stand reading the fma manga.
THANK YOU!! I LOVE WHAT YOU SAID!!

I started reading Full Metal Alchemist the manga many years ago and threw it down soooo quick cause it was boring. It started out so horrible that I'm surprised anyone would read it.
Of course the series has done more, it ended. The manga is still going. The manga and the anime are actually two entirely seperate plot lines with the same characters/ideas.

And how can you say the manga started off boring when it starts the exact same way as the anime? Methinks you should at least get further then the first volume to really judge it.

Thank you soo much for supporting the manga! I've been getting it imported from Japan. I think it's awesome but it shouldn't be compared to the show just because the show is, basically, different. I absolutely love the show but I wonder how adult swim could move such a popular show off of their prime spot and then start it over again.

P.S. What ep are they on now? I don't get cable where I am visiting. Are they past ep 25 yet? I hope I didn't miss anything...
It just doesn't get more baka than me.

I have watched a lot of the show, since it has been aired in the U.S, yeah it's a good show, but it isn't that good. Sure, it's a little depressing, and its got some backstory and good graphics, but it isn't sooo good that it out ranks all the other anime's.
enjoy the good times

Certainly FMA isn't for everyone. I wouldn't say it outranks all other anime, either. (Then again, nothing really does) But FMA is, I think, up there. The storyline is wonderfully unique and the plot twists are very shocking and unexpected. The characters are also very loveable, all with personailites that seem very realistic and thus when they act in a certain situation, it fits. Not to mention it has a perfect blend of angst and humor that can have you cracking up one minute then crying the next. All those factors are the reason I enjoy the anime so much, but I'm sure everyone has their different reasons.
