Wow. My faith in the General Anime forum has been restored.
ForeverZeroo wrote:I hate the fact that since anime isnt well known in the US (Well known as people think its for kids....pokemon and DBZ are the only animes....EVER)
that its just cast aside so quickly.
Uh... it is well-known in the US. Hello, Cartoon Network. Granted, the 45-year-old folks in the office where I work don't generally know what it is, but if you ask people under 30 they've probably heard of something that played on CN. Some consider this a bad thing, but the fact remains that anime's profile in the States is MUCH higher than it used to be.
No matter how good the story, art, or character develupment the anime has its still labeled "bad"

If Romeo and Juilet was never made by shakespear but it was made into an anime it would be label as "passable"
Uh... I think you're talking out of your ass here. What exactly are you talking about? I've heard nothing but good things about Cowboy Bebop from anyone who's ever seen it, for one random data point.
this annoies me. What also annoies me is the "Its animation" statment
...it IS animation. Unless you think the transformation sequences are filmed live in front of a studio audience?
so? did you like the dinos in jurassic park? yeah.,..so shut up

i'm sorry for this rant but i hate the fact that now anime is popular (popular being DBZ) and now its ok to like some animes.
Why do you hate that? Seriously. Is that all that makes you special, or something? If it's good, in your opinion, why not spread it around and let other people enjoy it too?
when back in highschool i had no friends for liking anime openly (not weirdly openly...but saying "I like anime")
I'm going out on a limb saying that there's more to it than that. If nothing else? I knew plenty of people in HS who liked anime and had friends. They watched Akira when it came on the Sci-Fi channel and WTFed together about what it was about. And this was in 1994. So pardon me for thinking that your claim is more than a little bull.
and today someone who likes "anime" told me i was weird for liking steel angel kurumi trigun and cowboy bebop. He said DBZ was the only good anime.
He's got narrow tastes. Why do you care what he thinks?
so now i'm stuck with people around me either into ONLY DBZ cause its popular or people who hate it...
And? I'm surrounded by people who've never heard of it, usually. (Okay, these days I have pimped out a couple of people enough that they're into a few shows, and have met some local fans. But otherwise.) I come on the internet and talk about it. That's kinda what the internet is good for.
kurumi is a BEAUTIFUL anime, its cute, funny and innocent at the same time its sexual. THAT is art.
I think you're insecure about your tastes. Why are you defending your shows to us?
charging and punching for tons of sagas ....isnt all that deep.

ugh sorry for the rant...
I just don't see what the point is, chief. Somebody chapped your ass because they don't like Steel Angel Kurumi? ...so what? My friends make fun of the anime I like all the time, because it's perky and girly. Annnnd you know what, it is. And I still like it.

And your claims about "anime in the US" are pretty much pulled from your butt. Sorry.

listen....i'm 20...i have been dealing with it since i was 14. I dont let it bother me. I just thought i'd share the AMAZING statement givin to me by americas culture and blindness

yesi know it went in circles a little bit. Casue all it was were jumbled thoughts. I was bored. thought i'd post. Is that a crime? take a pill.

just making a statement...however random it is
The fact that you started this thread proves that you do let this bother you.

Although that stereotyping can be quite funny e.g. anime in the simpsons where the bad guy turns into a squid or something. Classic.

And let me also draw a conclusion here:
People who like anime are like gay people:

-They're fun to make fun of
-They're easily hated by prejudiced people when they don't actually present any real or reasonable threat to them, nor is there any reasonable reason to hate them in the first place
-God hates them

Anime is like country music.

Lots of people say they hate it, even though they've never listened to it.
Maybe... and this is just a guess here your; 'friends' are assholes. I'm a big tough guy, but I never run into any real problems telling people that I found say... Haibane Renmei moving, or that I <ahem> might just possibly have cried after Grave of the Fireflies. If they don't like the same stuff I do, so what, I'm not a big fan of gangsta rap, or Bible Black either

All in all, I'm surprised this topic didn't get locked from post one. Isn't the journal for just this sort of rant?

I feel for you. I remember well my highschool days. I was looked on as a bit weird because I was really into SciFi and science. I did weird things like building a powerfull Tesla coil and handing in a paper on fourth dimentional geometery. I actually thought I knew something about it at the time. Other kids thought it was a little strange but I ignored them and I turned out just fine. ( Unless you count my penchant for enjoying anime) Don't let them get to you, maybe you are a little ahead of your time. I notice that my old friends seem to like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Terminator, Lord of the Rings and other Fantacy, SciFi now.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

Come and join us on the tiny but fun forum at http://www.allanime.org

why do people bother posting like this here?

Isn't saying something like that here a bit stupid? we all like anime, we've all heard all the arguments before

Most people don't want to take the time for things that the media says is for kids, or 14 teen year olds. Just like me and opera, I know there are great operas out there and my dad listens and explains them to me all the time, yet I take in about as much interest and understanding as he does with my animes.

HUH? I am guessing you are talking about the people who say they won't watch it for the animation, JP and anime are two completely different things. Besides, if they don't like it for that reason just call them close minded.

Most people who say that are usually just getting into it, and don't know what it means to like something for other than the action appeal. Unfortunately for me it seems like all america is like this, seeing all the movies being released, their nothing more than action thrillers or things with lots of sex. Like triple X 2 which, even though I haven't seen it, it probably the worst movie ever. I don't even know why people watch that stuff. You gain nothing and lose only brain cells, smoking is almost healthier.

As for Kurmui, I( will say it is the first anime I bought and the first season was good, second season sucked and was cancelled. But once again all your running into are opinions. Most Americans, and yes I am American too, usually like action flicks, so it is no surprising that most non anime fans would take a liking into anime, and besides, If I were you I would show them something good like Berserk or Neon Genesis Evangelion, or something weird confusing and scary like Boogiepop Phantom or Lain. Once again they might not like any of them because their in it for the action and not looking for the deeper meaning, which in that case you can brag about having a bigger brain. Other than that don't let it get to you, you enjoy it right? So, what is the matter, as long as your happy, right?
