Well I first saw Pokemon as a kid (i know pokemon!)
But I didn't know what Anime was back then XD!
i also got addicted to digimon and DBZ (now I look back at them they aren't really that exciting anymore...)
Then I started researching japan because I thought Samurais and ninjas were cool (and I still think they are) then I found out that all the shows I liked were called "Anime" now I love it!

Watched various anime when I was little, thought they were just super cool cartoons.
I think my first big drive to actively seek out anime was after playing Lunar I and II, gotta love those video sequences, good VAs, and great characters.

I always loved cartoons. I watched Voltron and Transformers when I was a kid and had never heard of anime. When Toonami (with Moltar) first ran and I discovered cable and Cartoon Network, I was instantly hooked for life! I've been watching ever since.
I suppose what hooked me is that I can still watch the silly fluff cartoons that I love, or the mindless action, or the romantic comedy I occasionally crave. Anime is a bit more versatile than most American animation simply because they don't have the perception that cartoon's are just for kids.
The first anime that I went out and bought were the Ronin Warrior OAVs

Teknoman (Tekkaman Blade), Samurai Pizza Cats and Superpig aired here about 10 years ago.
Then about five years ago, roughly remembering those cartoons, i surfed around a bit. I then stumbled upon the term anime. I think my first anime was the english version of ghost in the shell or random love hina episodes.
